Throughout our childhoods we have been introduced to and have received many different toys and things of the like to our enjoyment. Toys such as jump ropes, rubic's cubes, action figures and dolls just to name a few, have always been staples our younger days and always managed to hold a special place in our hearts. However, there has always been one toy that has managed to stand out better than some that we remember. For some of us, that toy just happens to be the humble slinky. What exactly is it about a slinky that we simply love so much? Perhaps its simply the way that it is shaped and how it stretches and bounds about in our hands as it were a living spring. Maybe its the fact that in our hands, it brought so many hours of enjoyment as we played with them in or our rooms or brought them outside during recess with our friends or even in class. For most of us, we got some of the best enjoyment out of our slinkies whenever we took them to the nearest staircase or whatever was stair-like and let them fall down the stairs; watching with glee as they bounded upon each and every single stair in a rather rhythmic motion until it rested in a neatly coiled state at the bottom of the stairs. Oh, but it wouldn't stop there, oh no. We would immediately gather it back up and return back up the stairs to watch this highly entertaining fall happen again and again. :Slinky:, created by the highly creative emoticon artist `CookiemagiK, allows us all to revisit that very childhood love that we have cherished in our hearts in the form of an emote falling helplessly down the stairs in the same rhythmic pattern that is synonymous with slinkies all around.
If there's one thing that this piece succeeds at immediately, its grabbing the attention of anyone who happens to come across it. Each and every single motion flows exactly as one would expect, almost perfectly mimicking the motions of a falling, stair-descending slinky. Its shocked expression during its fall ads even more to the whimsicality of the piece and guarantees a slight laugh or chuckle from whoever watching it. Watching the animated movements really shows one the level of attention to its motions that the artist has placed into it, while rather simplistic in its appearance, it still carries a very professional feeling to it which ads that much more personality from the artist into the piece.
While its simplistic charm and flowing motion really bring it out to the viewer's attention, perhaps there could be something to improve on it if there were a remix or revisit to the piece. Perhaps the emote could finally come to a stop after its extended free-fall down the stair case. Once at rest, it could recompose itself and catch its breath before tripping over some object, perhaps a book or a shoe, and once again begin falling down a flight of steps. Another thing that could be added to the piece, could maybe be a simple background color. Maybe there could be a few pictures of emote watching the event occur as the hapless emote falls down the endless steps. The emoticon could progressively fill with more and more fear and shock as the fall continues as it realizes that there are virtually no signs of it stopping anytime soon; genuinely bringing the small character's personality to a head at the piece and give the piece a more intensified frantic and comical atmosphere. Perhaps even add a small handrail in the background and foreground, small enough not to obscure the character so that the impact would not be hide the charm of the piece. All of these could really bring out that much more style and attraction to the overall piece and make it that much more of a true artistic spectacle that many more can bask in its compositional form and grace.
The slinky to this day never ceases to give children all around the world enjoyment and happiness. :Slinky: manages to successfully rekindle that love that many of us once had for the simplistic yet charming toy in the for a simplistic and charming emoticon animation. Its movements bring back these fond memories and the comical expression of the emote as its falls down the stairs will always hold a sense of enjoyment in the viewer who comes across the piece. Great work as always Joel, and here's to many more emoticon animations! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="31" height="19" alt="" title="Ahooooy Matey!"/>
