History
Pre-birth Azilene Vance was a cheetah that fled her own village far to the south following several disasters. She arrived in Decast with only two other refugees – the others did not survive the journey. She married a lynx guardian and carpenter named Balon Mirkel. Together they built a house and actively worked to be part of the community until Azilene no longer felt she was a “refugee” but a true citizen of Decast. Important Events:
Azilene, though technically an “adult”, took the same trials as apprentices in order to fully assimilate into the village.
Kithood
Jeleva was born first and Jagan soon after. They were inseparable as children, playing together and emulating their parents. Afterwards, Lana was born, though she was frail often sick. Their mother spent a great deal of effort keeping her healthy, while Jeleva and Jagan could only look on helplessly. Important Events:
Balon carved a wooden bird necklace for Jeleva, and Azilene gave her scarf to Jagan just before they began their studies and apprenticeships. Both of them loved to sing with their mother and work with their father.
Studenthood
When Jeleva and Jagan’s started official studies, they wanted to be just like their parents. Jeleva focused on herbalism and forestry while Jagan learned about carpentry. Both of them wanted to know healing so that they might help their little sister – as well as their newborn brother, Malik. Their father was injured when his group was attacked in the forest. It left him so maimed he could no longer serve as a guardian and was relegated to the workshop. This left Azilene drained between caring for children and for her husband. Important Events:
Jeleva started becoming bitter after their father’s crippling. She often complained about how useless things seemed with Lana so sick and father struggling to work. She started drifting in her studies. Jagan focused on carpentry to help his wounded father and started carving toys for his little siblings – as well as for other children. It made him popular among the youth.
Apprenticeship
Jagan followed the custom of apprenticeship at puberty, just as others of his age did. He became excellent at carpentry and tried his best to be just as skilled in first aid and healing. While Jagan was growing, his sister was getting worse each day new people were hurt from the Demorthens or other dangers. Finally, Jeleva stopped doing anything for days at a time before giving in to her hopelessness. She took her own life, unwilling to live in a world so harsh and full of monsters. Their entire family was devastated. Important Events:
Jagan was the last person to speak with Jeleva and her words broke his heart. He swore at her grave that he would kill every last Demorthen, even if it killed him. Throughout the rest of his apprenticeship, he was torn between burning hatred and care for others. Wood carving and singing his mother’s songs were the only things that put him at ease.

RP Example: An original excerpt featuring this character:
His mentor had gone to bed hours ago. Everyone else in the shop had already gone home. It was Jagan’s turn to lock up the workshop, and he fully planned to do so – after he finished his work.
It was nearly finished… just a few more details.
Jagan had been carving a little wooden bird out of a block of scrap he had snatched earlier in the week. Any moment he had to himself, he pulled it out from under his tunic and continued the project. Free time was getting scarce lately, with the equinox approaching. Everyone knew what that meant. Apprenticeship was coming to a close. The trials would start. Winter was ending – finally.
That didn’t warm his heart much, though. Nothing would.
He winced when he thought of Jeleva’s laugh. It was like music, so kind and sincere. Now it felt like an echo, even in his mind. She did not laugh for months. The last time…
“When was the last time?” he asked himself aloud. “Lana’s birthday?”
Now Jeleva was gone.
With his mind distracted, his knife slipped off the wood and cut his finger. Jagan hissed at the sharp pain, but quickly dropped everything to cover his mouth and keep from crying aloud. Blood trickled down his paw and he stuck it in his mouth.
After a moment, he wrapped his finger with his sash and packed up his material and tools. The candle was getting too low and he was too tired.
“No use,” he said with a heavy sigh. “I’m no use like this. Besides, there’s a lot of work to do tomorrow. Malik’s present will just have to wait. Stupid, stupid, stupid…”
He locked up the shop with care and then made his way home.
