The 142nd Battalion, or the "Bottom Rung", are a force where the undesirables from other battalion's and inept conscripts are "officially" sent to. Funnily enough the 142nd have the highest success rate out of any other battalion within the ranks of the MSU. They are also considered one of the most violent of the bunch too. This is not so much due to their behavior or tactics but instead of the casualties caused whenever they enter the ring. These casualties come from both sides, enemy and friendly. "Luckily" though the friendly casualties more than generally occur for the 142nd themselves. The other half of the violent part comes from how the casualties occur, namely close quarters battles.

Battles fought by the 142nd almost always end in what can be described as "a blaze of unmatched fury and blood". Because of this the 142nd are one of a few MSU battalions who are actively issued bayonets. Not even the many commanders of the 142nd know or knew how even a quarter of these battles ended up in a vicious brawl. After most of said battles, bodies of the injured and deceased generally line the battlefield and sometimes even in droves. Somehow though the 142nd still manage to regain their numbers barely weeks after these engagements. It's honestly baffling really.

A fun fact about the 142nd, they are the only battalion to effectively and actually "stab a tank to death" with their bayonets. How this was even accomplished is still unknown though most attribute it to persistence. A drone that was flying overhead caught footage of what could only be compared to a colony of ants attacking a large beetle. They even had the ordinance to take out said tank in a normal way but for some unknown reason the troops of the 142nd decided to try and stab it, and succeed.
