What I would suggest, and I recognize it because it's something I sometimes struggle with, is that there's not enough tonal variety. If you look at it while squinting, you can see that about 85% of it reads as midtone. If you push the contrast, I think it would add a lot to the overall look of the piece, because as it is, the linework is pretty good. If you up the contrast and saturation as well particularly at the areas of emphasis, it would draw the eye to those focal points instead of just drifting across the entire piece.
Good luck! I hope you do touch it up so that you find it looks complete and you're satisfied with it, because I know once you do, it'll look just awesome!
(Sorry, this just turned into a full out critique!)

Thank you very much! I will try what you are suggesting. They are good ideas. I always struggle with contrast. And I appreciate you taking the time to write your critique.

I think it's awesome. I look at it and am instantly transported to a weird and beautiful world. But you might be able to push the colors a bit more by giving us a bit more saturation somewhere in the fore- or middle-ground, because I don't feel like the colors contribute much to the focus.

I hear ya. I'm not completely happy with the colors. I have so many conflicting thoughts about which way I should go with the color. I had planned to work up another version, but I just got hit with a ton of work, so that may never happen.
I think my trouble with color is that too often I begin coloring too specifically. I need to work things out far more generally to establish the overall mood/setting/whatnot.
Anyway, I do agree with your comments. Thanks for commenting.

I think this is one of the neatest fantasy environments I've seen recently. Nice work.

I'm very glad you like it! When I get some time - which may be never - I hope to improve it. I want to experiment a bit with my painting style and with the color palette.

Thank you thank you! I look at it nearly every day and wonder how I can make it better. I'm not sure what it is I want to change, but I'm just not satisfied. Still, I'm glad you like it.

Well, thanks! I really appreciate you saying so. And I hear what you're saying about the contrast. I go back and forth on that. Someone else suggested increasing the line weight. I'll have to mess around with it and see what happens. That's the best part of digital. I can keep making changes until I'm happy. Of course on the other hand when someone asks how long it takes to create such a piece I'll have no idea.
I was just looking at your Gentle Treefolk piece. I love it. The whole thing is great. I like how you handled the leaves. I'm still working on the best way, for me, to draw and color leaves.
I really need to catch up on viewing other people's work. I've been very distracted lately.

That is a great part about digital, but being able to constantly rework can also be a bad thing too. This one piece I must have spent an extra 10 hours just tweaking different areas because I wasn't entirely happy. Gotta know when to move on I guess.
Thanks for taking a look at my Treefolk guy! I'm glad to hear you like it, especially that you like the leaves because I'm in the same boat as you with working on the best way to handle leaves. It seems every time I do a piece with leaves I handle them a different way, so thanks!

I really like the overall concept and feel of it; really whimsical, but also sort of...unexpectedly believable? (you know, considering there's a rhino wearing a sweater!) I feel like I could be there, standing in the cold wind...
If it needs anything, I'd say it needs darker or bolder lines around the two kids on the rhino. Compared to the objects in the foreground and the larger rocks in the background, their lines are very light, and it kinda makes them blend into the background.

Thank you for the critique. You make some good points. I still haven't quite found the words to describe my frustration with this piece. Some of it lies with the linework and some with the color. Both need some love, but I haven't quite decided what yet. But I will try your suggestion when I get a moment.
