Merida and her Mom is a subject that has become close to my heart. My sister in law and my niece, Tammy, recently visited me here in the US, and we went to California Adventure and had a great time. My sister in law told me she watched Brave with her daughter and it really touched her.This piece I dedicate to both Susan and Tammy, thank you for a great day!
This artwork also marks my first venture in rendering fur.... I hope I did it justice.

Thank you so much, I showed this piece to Brenda Chapman, the director of Brave and she loved it! One of the most monumental, awesome moments in my life. She is so nice too! ANd she won an Oscar this year too!

This is the grass effect I'm talking about for Tangled! Hair looks like a scrubbing pad, If you're doing the curls, do as much going outwards as much as inwards. I suggest tight inward curls as you approach the face (unless dictated by environment like wind) Since I see streams of sunlight, why didn't you REALLY accentuate it on the bear & Merida?

I am so glad you liked it. When we watched World of Color at Cailfornia Adventure, and seeing you and your mom enjoying it (both times), I thought I definitely have to do a Merida piece since your mom told me how she related to Queen Elinor and Merida's relationship. The idea flowed so easily out of me since I related to it a lot too.

Unfortunately, I haven't watched Brave yet, but hopefully I'll get a chance soon...
As with your art, it exudes a "happy vibe", like you were over-the-top delighted when you did this from start to finish...and for obvious reasons that you related above...
The fur looks untamed...which is perfect for fur in the wild...nice rendering; I find the Mom's hair a bit stiff compared to the wind-blown movement of the grass...perhaps a few flowing strands may make it look softer; Also, once again I love the ray of light above them, but the clouds are too uniformed in shape in my view, and if you look at them from afar, they look like two clasped hands facing you...other than these, just in my humble opinion, it's another feather to your already overflowing hat! Way to go...going higher each time, with each art! Amazing!

Yes I was on hyperdrive doing this piece, since it had a back story. I think any creation as long as you have an emotional stake, or investment it makes it all the more fun to do.
Yes I admit its my first time venturing doing fur and I'm still learning to render it. I shall tweak it further.
I will check on the clouds too.

I watched the movie already (finally!!) and LOVED it! I agree, Merida is really like Tammy- free spirited and very un-lady like! hahaha
I noticed that the circular clouds above the bear looks a bit like bubbles though. Would it be better for clouds to have softer edges? Also, would some scales help on the fishes?

Good to finally hear from you. I'm glad you did get to catch Brave, I loved it too. I didn't really connect Tammy to Merida since Merida is like on steriods, and Tammy is so docile, it was more of the relationship between her and Queen Elinor her mom, that made me think they connected.
