Description
Yellow-billed Magpie pica nuttalli, a close relative of the more widespread Black-billed Magpie. Yellow-bills are just slightly smaller and slenderer than Black-bills. This corvid is common within its narrow range (the northern area of Central Valley, California), but a West Nile outbreak during 2005-2006 drastically reduced the population by an estimated 50%, hitting some areas harder than others. They are still a species of least concern according to the IUCN Red List.
