Given the propensity of percolating feces in that fic, a bit of plumbing is probably necessary. Glad to see you didn't include any of it in this rendition.
Sorry I haven't commented on your works as much, recently. The situation in the bakery leading up to Easter has been absolutely crazy, and it looks like the insanity's not quite done now that the holiday's over.

One employee's been on sick-leave since late September, a long-timer finally retired the week before Easter week, and the girl hired to fill in for the sick-leave-r blew us off by quitting with a note. So we were two people short during the week of a major bread- and pastry-buying holiday, and our cake/pie decorator dragged her ass throughout. She's continuing to drag her ass now, so much so that it looks like she might lose hours or even get fired. Which would put us another person down.
Oh, and the employee on sick-leave is back, but only one day a week, for a four hour shift, until she's more recovered. I don't begrudge her that, though.

Ouch, that's a lot of gaps in the schedule.
Sigh... we just lost three people, so the overtime will probably be plentiful. I don't mind working six or seven days a week, i just wish i could always work at my usual facility. Tonight, i had to go to... Omohundro. You can tell by the name that it's not a happy place. It just sounds grody.
"Yeah, doc, i've been noticing a lot of blood in my stool recently, i think maybe i have Omohundro?"

Omohundro... I dunno, it kind of sounds like the hot spring in some anime's obligatory "let's all go to the hot springs, to remind the audience that we're Japanese people in Japan, where the hot springs are" episode.

Sadly, no, Old Cakey is still there. I worked with him tonight, and he did nothing but grumble as he ate his gigantic family-size box of Twinkies.
He's so predictable. I pointed out the coverage of the royal wedding on the radio just to hear him scowl and say "Whoopee! Who cares? Rarararaagh!"
He doesn't like anything. Except sweets.

I've heard that a branch of the Westboro Baptist Church is heading out to protest at the royal wedding. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens when they try their shit in a country that doesn't have any freedom of speech laws.

burkeonthesly In reply to Chronorin [2011-05-01 20:37:03 +0000 UTC]
The Westboro Baptists are a special, crazy sect. They like to protest anywhere there'll be media coverage, as well as at the funerals of soldiers, homosexuals, and other people they don't like. You see them waving the "God hates fags" signs lots of places.
See, it's mostly one extended family, and they go around bear-baiting, then when someone actually crosses the line and treads on their first amendment rights, the members of the family who are well-educated lawyers jump out and sue their asses for a big pile of money.
But--and here's the thing I'm looking forward to: there's no first amendment in England. There's no freedom of speech, or right to peaceably assemble, or freedom of the press. The people only have those rights to the extent that the government gives them, and said government can revoke those rights whenever it likes. The cops did it when they "kettled" student protesters last fall.
So what happens when people who make a weapon and a business out of abusing their first amendment rights go to a place with no first amendment and start up their usual tricks?

In theory, we do have freedom of the press, the right to peaceful protest, and freedom of speech here in the UK... in theory.
In practice, it so often seems that we don't, especially when you get the few people that have to try to turn every single peaceful demonstration into a riot, or when so-called celebraties can take out super-injunctions to prevent the media disclosing who they are having affairs with, or if there is any chance of saying something that offends a minority with a bunch of irritating lawyers, etc etc

It's that gulf between theory and practice into which I'm hoping the Westboro Baptists will fall.

That would potentially be hilarious... now if some of the people who claim to be Muslims but are instead violent sociopaths who think it is ok to blow up innocent people for no good reason would fall into the same gap, that would be good too.

Hilarity, i hope.
Have you ever heard of Michael Savage? He's a right-wing radio talker, kind of a cross between Rush Limbaugh and a crazy old racist uncle. I listen to a few minutes of him every week just for the LULZ, which he never fails to bring...
...he rants about Britain on a constant basis because their equivalent of the FCC rejected his radio show; too much vitriol against Muslims for their tastes. So Savage wrote an entire book called "Banned in Britain" and declares on a regular basis that this is the most vital free speech issue in the world -- that if his show is not allowed to be syndicated in Britain, then all of Western civilization will fall to the Islamofascist hordes.
It's funny stuff.
His most classic rant, however, remains his diatribe against New York Jews who visit buffets in Boca Raton while wearing special raincoats that have watertight pockets, which allow them to steal $55 worth of ill-gotten shellfish on every trip.
