This is my submission for Easter. The dogwoods are insanely gorgeous this year. I was born on Good Friday, so my birthday's only a few days before Easter. :]
There's a story about the dogwood that goes something like this:

The dogwood tree used to be a great, strong tree comparable to the oak tree; big enough to construct anything out of it. They would use these trees for crosses in crucifixions back in the Roman times. It was, of course, used to construct the cross that Jesus had been crucified on. The cruel use of the wood stressed the trees. Jesus said with his pity to the trees, "Because of your sorrow and pity for My sufferings, never again will the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used as a cross. Henceforth it will be slender, bent and twisted and its blossoms will be in the form of a cross two long and two short petals. In the center of the outer edge of each petal there will be nail prints brown with rust and stained with red and in the center of the flower will be a crown of thorns, and all who see this will remember."
