Description:

This image is very special to me as it was taken at a time when I was enduring a particularly bad cycle of bipolar depression and I was feeling spiritually lost. My heart was going through such torment, because I knew God was there but I just could not find Him nor feel His presence anywhere. I wondered how He could possibly love a broken down loser like me. I had lost the joy for everything in my life, including my photography. The last three shoots I had, produced nothing, my timing was so poor I either missed the sunset completely or was waiting for it to be spectacular and then nothing would come, or I would leave after a rather bland sunset only to leave too early and have the sky erupt in colour. Then when at my lowest point I decided to give it one more try. I drove out to my favourite spot and this night I spent the whole time weeping and asking God what it was He wanted from me, that I was in such a bad place I couldn't handle living life like this anymore and I wanted Him to bring me home. He answered me with this sunset. "This is what I want from you. I want you here to witness & capture My glory, so that you can be a witness to others and bring them to Me through the gift I have given you." From that night on, my passion for photography came back to full strength. I know now that if I ever again feel that I can't find the Lord, all I need do is take the camera out into the wilderness and wait for Him to display His incredible power and beauty. That night was my first step back onto the narrow path of righteousness. Praise God!

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths." - Proverbs 3:5-6
