This has been made a long time ago but I figured I'd upload it here since people might find it useful. Knowing me, I jump from one technique to another.
From a texture painterly style semi-realism to this. Well it's because it depends on how many hours I'd want to put in it haha. So for example if I need to draw and color something quick I use this style. It's some sort of a mix between a soft cell-shade with the effects coming out like painted. This kind of technique usually only takes me around 20 minutes compared to my other more prominent style which takes me about 8 hours to do.

I will explain below how this technique works. I won't start on the lineart process as this is only for how to shade C: I will also not go into details about colors and stuff as that is a different topic as well. I might go and produce a speedpaint video for this one or a tutorial video in the future but not set in stone (squeaks)

I commonly use sai but this can work with photoshop users too.
Time to spend: 20 minutes to 1 hour
Difficulty:
First, you only just need three brushes:
1. Hard/Soft brush
2. Hard Eraser
3. Blending Brush (for me I use the blur brush but the water brush you can use too)

Steps and explanations:
1. Once you have finished the lineart, lay all of your base colors on your subject
2. On a new multiply layer with a 63% opacity fill it with the appropriate color (or colors that you use to shade). DO NOT USE PURE BLACK!
3. Using your hard eraser, erase away the spots that do not need shading/shadow.
4. Using your blending brush, blend the spots that does not need a hard shading (see the Multiply 1 picture for reference).
5. On top of the first multiply layer, make another multiply layer with the same opacity of 63%. The hue shall be darker than your first shading layer.
6. With your hard eraser, erase away the spots that does not need super dark shadows. This shadow is usually found in places that light ultimately not touch.
7. Repeat step 4 (see Multiply 2 picture for reference)
8. Time for the highlights! In this picture the light source is coming from the upper left. Create a new layer in luminosity mode and set in 48% opacity.
9. Pick the lightest hue and paint the highlights on the parts lit by the light using your soft brush. DO NOT USE PURE WHITE!
10. This part is something I like to add, it is kind of a personal touch for me. It adds a bit of color in my art. With a new layer set to overlay with a 100% opacity, paint over the parts that you want to intensify the colors of. Do keep in mind to not use it on parts that are not lit with light or are in the shadows.
