Description 34 x 25cm

My homage to the life and writing career of Brian Jacques, author of the Redwall series.

The painting itself was a bit of an experiment with gouache. Normally I would really go to town with watercolour and only use gouache for highlights but this time I used the gouache for a lot of the body colour. I felt it work well in the furniture but not so much on the stone work. You live and learn!

I loved his books as a kid. They always gave such fuel to the imagination.

This is stunning. Just the sheer amount of details is amazing. And the mouse looks so life-like. He has a grandfathery feel to him. The lighting and colours are just gorgeous, giving it that cozy, homy feeling. Brilliant. And congrats.

In German, there is the word "Leseratte" (literal translation: reading rat) for a person that reads a lot. This is a mouse, but it's a nice picture nevertheless.

, Yes, this is beautifully detailed and it really does look befitting of the late Mr. Jacques.
Being younger when I first saw Redwall, and then reading the first book in High School, his beloved series and characters really grew on me, and I think this artwork is just splendid.
I love the all the fine detailed work. (By the way, what is "gouache"...anything like Oil Paints?)

(Oh, and on the Daily Deviantion )

~May Mr. Jacques Rest in Peace...
