Description Caeruleum (Ky-Roo-Lee-Oom) - Latin for Blue

My first space scene. I hand painted the planet myself, big thanks to for the encouragement! I would really appreciate some critiques on this as I know I can do better. I would have liked to make the planet look more background than foreground and I'm not sure it's blending too well with the bg. So critique away and offer me any advice that will help on my next spacescape

Ignore the star rating, its not meant to mean anything.

I love your stars, they are nice and glowy! For some reason white stars like these always seem to look better than my own colored stars e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="395" title=" (Lick)"/>.

As for the planets, I have the following recommendations (merely my own style):
Add an inner glow layer on the top side of the planet (preferably don't use the photoshop blending modes, do it manually in whatever way you are comfortable).

Fade out the outer glow on the the sides until it is invisible on the bottom side of the planet. So basically as the planet gets darker, so too the outer glow should fade out.

When doing smaller planets I like to just copy my big planet and size it down, saves a lot of time! Then you can edit it as needed.
The planet texture is good but I think it would look even better with more sharp highlights. Imagine the light striking snow topped mountains. If you the video I did for you I add some sharp bright highlights on the planet.

Finally, to fade the planet into the background (make it look further away). Simply grab a color from the background and paint on top of the planet to add "haze". So instead of the darkest point on the planet being black, it will be a pale blue (similar to the color of the background). The more haze you add the further it will look away. Experiment!

Good luck Chimera! Keep up the great work. I'd like to see an edited version of this one taking into account these comments, and see what you get!

i really like how you made the blue almost glow. Β Very well put together gives a very nice fantasy sci-fi feel i like it.

Best of luck dadrian!
And about ratings, it would be cool if there was a way to crit a piece without rating it lol.

yep, I think you covered everything important here, cosmicspark.
The main point for improvement for me is the plasticity of the planet. Add more more light to one side and maybe darken the other. A common way is to use inner glow, as cosmic mentioned. I don't see anything wrong with using photoshop layer styles, as they can also be tweaked and modified till you get exactly what you want.
You are getting better and better, just keep on practicing!

First of all thank you so much for mentioning me in this! ^.^ was a nice surprise . I think you have done really well for your first go! I love the background and the colors its really beautiful! Good job with the painting for the planet, it works really well! Maybe you can give it an inner glow and an outer glow to give it an atmospheric look? Im not very experienced with these things myself so I am probably not that helpful XD But really nice work for your first go!Β Β
