Description Some more personal NPCs I've been developing as part of a collaborative world building experiment with . These guys are not allied with any of the guilds in Tao Village, as they mostly travel around to work. The Sandshrew Kite and his Garchomp partner Basalt are relic hunters and excavators. They do an assortment of important jobs involving seismic activity, earth moving and mining.

Kite is an aspiring geologist who has an uncanny talent for being able to 'feel' the strength of rocks and structures through touch. He has a rare condition where the quicks of his claws are much larger than an average Sandshrew's, leaving only a thin layer of calcium to protect them. This makes his claws hyper-sensitive and prone to bleeding, so he tends to wear rubber gloves for this reason. Being so sensitive to vibratinons and surface texture, he's learned to make use of his disability and can determine the properties of objects simply by drumming his fingers over them. He loves technology but isn't very technically inclined when it comes to using or understanding machines and devices. He mostly sticks to a small array of tools and makes use of a special lantern artifact which allows him to use Flash Cannon and Power Gem, very useful for lighting up dark caves and performing 'x-rays' on rocks to pinpoint the location of ores and faults. He has a friendly, modest demeanor and doesn't consider himself much of a fighter, using most of his attacks for work rather than battle.

Basalt (or 'Bass' as he likes to be known) is an ex-smuggler from Gambitville who makes use of his great strength to act as an all-purpose demolition tool for Kite. He's skilled at using his Earthquake attack in a very precise manner, being able to control the tremors in order to produce just the right amount of seismic force to close dangerous tunnels without destroying the environment around too much. He also flies Kite from place to place and carries the tools. While he might seem like the brute of the group, he's actually a very intelligent and kindhearted sort, though a bit blunt and vulgar sometimes. He often claims that he doesn't get along well with other dragons, though he's been seen together with a certain Druddigon on more than one occasion.

Wow, I really love this! Not only is the artwork really stellar (which seems to be the norm for you), but the design of the characters and their addition gear are really cool! The tail harness is a really clever idea! This is excellent work all around, including the backstories!

I'll have to avoid making any embarassing mistakes by referencing real geoligical terms because you'll pick them out right away x3

Very interesting characters. I really like Basalt's write-up, he seems more complex than your average Garchomp.

The art is stunning as always.

I'm blown away by how beautiful your artwork is every time I see it... Absolutely fantastic!

The characters you and Andy have created here are also fascinating. I love how creative the idea for Kite is especially.

Just curious, what program do you use for your art?

Thank you very much. I use Paint Tool Sai, which is a japanese Photoshop alternative that a lot of artists find better for tablet drawing.

Ah, I see. Another question (I apologize if I'm being a bother), do you yourself use any downloaded/special brushes in SAI? I'm slightly familiar with the program, but I'm curious as to whether or not you do anything "special" in the process of creating your work.

Once again, sorry for pestering you with my questions; how talented artists such as yourself go about composing their work just fascinates me.

I do use a texture/brush pack I found here on DA, but I'm not sure I can remember exactly what it was. PK recommended it to me and it's been pretty great so far for blending and texture work.

Oh goodness, this is absolutely breathtaking.
It's so lovely to see you and Andy working together. Both of you have such fantastic ideas.
I absolutely adore the flavor text. It is seriously such an absolute pleasure to read.
Gorgeous artwork and wonderful characters. I get really pumped whenever I see your art appear in my inbox.

The bit about Kite having a sort of calcium deficiency was really fascinating. Ahh...absolutely lovely work.

It's not that he's got a calcium deficiency, but the fleshy parts on the inside of his claws are a lot bigger and closer to the surface than most of his kind. It's a bit like how some people can't bite into ice creams because their teeth are more sensitive.

Kite can't grate his claws against certain textures comfortably without mad spine tingles and he can't handle cold objects without his gloves. But on the plus side, he's extremily dexterous.

Ah...I interpreted that wrongly. That is really, really cool. Thank you for the comparison with coldness against teeth. It helps me understand it better. I can even almost feel it now.

Excellent concept, really.
