This was VERY helpful!!But one thing;how do you cut it straight?Mine sometimes ends up too short because i couldn't cut straight :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chat-noir In reply to nuttaela [2013-07-30 18:11:13 +0000 UTC]

Cutting it straight takes some practice, if you cut it slightly crooked you can rub the bowl against some sandpaper, it'll help even things out and smooth the cut area.

whenever i make it, the clay reforms to a useless lump. any suggestions?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chat-noir In reply to InnocentDemon75 [2012-05-08 02:45:07 +0000 UTC]

It could be a few things...

1 - Your clay might be too warm or too soft, once you form the clay around the marble you can pop it into the freezer to help stiffen it up.

2- Maybe you are working too thin, you can make the bowl thicker and then sand it down after baking.

Let me know if either of these help. I can try and brainstorm new solutions.

My marble keeps rolling around inside of the clay, making it almost impossible to cut and work with. What do I so? It keeps stretching away from my marble and tearsing.

chat-noir In reply to VixenQueenofHearts [2012-04-05 22:37:20 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the question. I work with pretty thick clay to make a bowl to prevent the tearing issue, the thicker the clay the less likely it is to tear when you stretch it around the marble. As for the rolling around problem, perhaps using the marble dry (instead of dipping it into the water) will be able to help you keep your marble in place. Instead of dragging the knife across the marble to cut it I turned the marble into the blade to cut off the extra clay. That might help you as well.

Hope this helps,

Do u glaze the bowl before you put the food in or after it has been baked again with the food in?
Because i am wondering if glaze would survive in the oven, if i baked the bowl with food again after it has been glazed..

kayanah [2009-02-13 04:59:06 +0000 UTC]

I tried...but unfortunately all my bowls broke. I was super delicate, I guess it's because my clay was too thin around the marble... At least I used my white clay, so I did not spoil any color clay on my attempt.
