Description Ahhh, I've been working on this for the past 2 or 3 days now and just took the first scan. And I realized that the drawing is FAR too light even though I already did darken it down twice since the first layer had been put down...

This taught me to from now on ALWAYS start with the darkest part of the drawing, which in this case will be the top and bottom borders, so that's what I'm gonna work on next.
After that I will adjust the other values you see now.

Aww, thank you! I'm afraid you might never see that, or it may take a very long time. It's been almost a year since I started that...

well I can understand the hard work behind such a drawing, and the time it can take...but let's hope you'll have a LOT of free time so you can finish it!

Well, I do have free time, but I never use it to finish my unfinished drawings that I didn't work on for too long...

You have captured her - at first glance the lights seem spot on and the texcture shade in her hair is great - I really cant wait to see this finished with a backdrop !

Me neither to be honest, but I feel reluctant to finish it, because it's been so long. I have actually discussed sending it over to someone else here to finish it for me

It's not too light, no way. Galadriel=Lady of Light. So. Let there be light.

Beautiful <3.

Thank you!

I know, it just didn't compare right to the values in the original picture, but I have to learn to put in my own contributions and not copy everything as accurate as possible.

Hmm, I guess you're right.. Some how I always want to get every value as close to the original as possible, but maybe I should abandon that thought..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DragonKira In reply to Cerzus69 [2010-04-05 16:14:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, if you ask me, I would say to do so. Cose you already have the amazing talent to draw perfectly whatever you see, so why not filter it through your imagination.
You are doing amazing things already, think what you could do if you started to draw from your mind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cerzus69 In reply to DragonKira [2010-04-05 16:20:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, but I think I still have a lot to learn. Since it turned out way too light, that means that I CAN'T draw perfectly whatever I see.
I'm glad you think I could draw from imagination. I really want to do that someday, to just sit down and make up my own worlds and stuff and make them seem real.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DragonKira In reply to Cerzus69 [2010-04-05 16:35:20 +0000 UTC]

You still have a lot to learn????Oh, my God, then what can we "mortals" expect? It doesn't matter that it doesn't look exactly like in reality, come on, that is why photography was invented. When was the last time you studied carefully one of your drawings? You are brilliant, you can do whatever you want in this kind of art. Of course I believe you could draw from your imagination. And I am sure it would look fantastic!
I can't wait to see you submit something like that. But why only someday? The sooner, the better!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cerzus69 In reply to DragonKira [2010-04-05 18:24:11 +0000 UTC]

Take a good look around this site and you WILL find many better artits. And what I mean by having a lot to learn still is that I only know how to copy photographs. Everything I need is right in front of me, no imagination necessary. Now, to put something down from imagination with lighting, shadows and so on at least believably correctly applied is something else, not to mention the actual imaginative abilities you need.
I'm not even talking about other mediums or even color yet. Yes, I still have a lot to learn!

Thank you for the llama and the by the way!

DragonKira In reply to Cerzus69 [2010-04-05 19:19:07 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! It was my pleasure!
Ok, you are right, I agree, but...being able to draw that accurate as you is something, all right!
Some artists would shoot me if they see what I say(maybe even you), but maybe drawing that perfectly isn't really necessary sometimes. If a shade or lightning isn't that correctly applied but the whole picture is breathtaking, maybe it's not that bad. Maybe! Maybe I only say so, because I could never do a perfect perfect drawing and there for I believe that the athmosphere the drawing gives you matters. But I guess that a perfectly applied shade can create a certain athmosphere.
I don't know, I just think that you should really try doing it!

I don't think I will start it all over again. The face is pretty much done now and that took a while, so..

Cerzus69 In reply to DragonKira [2010-04-09 01:45:51 +0000 UTC]

The more I think about, the more I actually regret the fact that when I saw this scan back in december or january I actually put another layer on top of the face, because you were totally right that I should leave the face light because she IS the lady of light. It just looks better.

Cerzus69 In reply to DragonKira [2010-04-08 15:11:56 +0000 UTC]

No, you're right, I think in most cases changing the contrast or just some values really helps. But I just want TO BE ABLE to see and draw the shades correctly, you know, so that if I really want to have the same shade I CAN.
