*hugs dragon* He's so cute! Ever played the pipes before? I USED to try; it's very hard. I guess my hands are too small. Anyway, I give pipers a LOT of credit and really respect them. Love the music too.

I've never tried playing pipes (I do have a bodhran though ), though I watch a lot of people play them. Sometimes they really get going and their fingers are blurs! I don't now how they keep up! Actually anyone who can play music is pretty amazing to me, I still don't really understand how music works, my husband tried to explain it to me so I know a bit more than I did, but it's still....rather like rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time.

I have a bodhran too and cannot figure out how to play it! Rhythm and I never got along well, but melodies are friendly enough. I am totally incapable of doing that rub belly and pat head thing--always was and I look like an idiot whenever I try. I can play the Irish tin whistle and the piano, both of which I have had to refrain from for a while because of my tendonitis arm. It's weird that the whistle hurts me more. I have a ton of those things in various keys, unfortunately I have gotten very rusty because of my lapse of playing.

Yay! You know what a bodhran is! I actually got it to work once for me, playing along with some music, that was thrilling for the 10 seconds I got it right! Normally I would try to read the book and understand what it was trying to tell me. Haven't played the thing in a few years. My fave combo to listen to is bodhran and whistle. I'm sorry to hear you have troubles with your arm, it sucks when the body keeps you from doing soemthing you like.

Yeah, I get a lot of weird looks when I mention bodhran--they're not overly well-known. People think I'm crazed when I mention didgeridoos, dulcimers, and duduks as well... Do you like them? I tried reading the bodhran book but it made no sense. Also, the tipper made the purdy Celtic knotwork wear off a little, so I decided to stop pursuing that. I think they sound good with whistle as well. Yeah, I actually shouldn't be drawing at all because of my arm, I just determined to take it easy and use a ton of ice again. So far so good. I feel like an invalid. It's vexing.

I like the digeridoo, and I have heard dulcimers, what exactly is a duckduck, I mean duduk? I should Google it instead of harassing you about it. I too, noticed that the pretty pictures/knotwork on mine was getting a little smeared when I had hit it. My husband has a bodhran as well, his doesn't have any pictures on it, and I don't think any of the ones I've seen in bands do either. Are you having troubles with both arms or just the one you use to draw with? With some practise you could use your other hand for drawing. One year I was going to train my left hand to draw, I got pretty good, but my right hand tenses up funny, and keeps trying to take over. And I had to go really slow. I've always marveled at the folks who use their teeth or toes/feet to paint or draw. Such determination! They are amazing.

I've heard that they do not recommend the painted ones. Once I saw a woman thrying to sell a man a very elaborately painted one at a Renaissance Faire, claiming it would not wear off. I just kept my mouth shut. Only my right arm hurts. I have been drawing a little with my left hand--it's not too bad, but I cannot write with that hand for anything. I still don't know whether I got it from typing or regular writing, I did a ton of both. Most of my DA comments are typed out with my left hand alone, I don't like using DragonSpeak for EVERYTHING; I get sick of talking. I'm amazed by those people, too. They're very inspiring. If only we were all that determined.

"Because we use a *special* paint!"I guess the painted ones are more for hanging on the wall. Does it ever translate stuff you say wrong? Why am I reminded of those automated menus where they want you to talk and then say, "I'm sorry, I didn't understand" and then they go through the whole menu listing again. I can write passably well with my left hand, it takes a longer time, and my right hand doesn't like it.

*laughs* Gosh, I really want to see the mistakes now!

Special paint! OOOOH yeah. It always translates wrong. I was planning on making a cartoon of my frustrations with that thing sometime in the future; often its mistakes are silly and I end up screaming at it and calling it names... Which only makes it worse.
