though, she can be quite stand-offish with others if they try to engage in deeper conversation with her that isn't casual small talk. et'hlae is incredibly blunt and despite her perceptiveness, doesn't always think about how her words will affect others before she speaks. especially if you're actually close to her, she will say things as she sees it unless it will really hurt you to hear because she sees no meaning in sugar coating.

despite her willingness to help those in need, et'hlae's focus is on survival and taking care of herself and the few people she cares for. she will not go out of her way to help a stranger or a mere acquaintance if it endangers her well being. if she does care for somebody, she will be quite protective to a point of it being overwhelming. she will do everything in her power to ensure they wouldn't get badly hurt and becomes pretty reckless and brash when it comes to her loved ones.

history ;

TLDR:

  — raised by a single father. never knew her mother and never really questioned it. her father was a workaholic and started to neglect her.
  — eventually she went to work away from home to support her father, cause she still cared for him.
  — went back home after earning enough money to have a reunion with her father!
  — ... but she looked too similar to her mother after getting older, so her father didn't recognize her as his daughter and attacked her instead.
  — she passes out during the incident and then wakes up seeing directions to gliese + a letter by her bed. concludes that her father left her out of guilt and decided to move to gliese like he said so she could start a new life.

> born rose axantha, the girl lived in a settlement somewhere in the deildegast empire. her father was a well known researcher in the area, but she never knew her mother. it was a normal life despite the difficulties her father had to go through while working on his research. rose had always supported her father's ambitions and believed that he could create things that would better the world one day. he would always brush her aside and scold her a little about putting him on too high of a pedestal, but she never stopped believing in him.

days went by and slowly, she started to realize that her father was starting to wear himself thin. he wasn't himself, would start rambling about business opportunities and sometimes even neglect rose for his work. the girl tried to convince her father to take a few days off and spend time doing something else...but he never listened. eventually, rose had to learn how to take care of herself and the house. her father would usually thank her and apologize for not being able to spend time with her during meals.

as rose got older, her father's attitude towards her steadily started to change. he would always seem to look at her as if she was somebody else entirely. soon the daily chats during meals turned to awkward conversations that her father tried to start and rose never knew how to continue. he started to focus more and more on his work until he wouldn't even leave the house anymore except for things related to it.

at some point, her father wouldn't even celebrate her birthdays anymore, but rose's heart had long since hardened towards this. she decided that she just needed to be more useful and independent, so she started job-hunting in hopes that she'd be able to make a living.

rose was away from home almost all of the time because of her many part time jobs, but she always made sure to write letters back home to her father. he rarely sent any back, but this didn't matter to her. it would be fine when she got back home, she thought. she would finally be able to support him and his ambitions better and they could spend more time together.

rose looked forward to the day when she could return back home. and that day did come, to her excitement. she eventually earned enough to be able to buy her own house if she wished. rose hurried back home after many years of being away, happy to know that her father didn't move away despite how long it had been.

but the familial reunion wasn't one that she expected. when she opened the door, her father was standing there- but his face contorted into something alike a mix of shock and anger she had never seen before. rose had grown into somebody that her own father didn't recognize as 'rose' anymore, too similar looking to the woman she would've called her mother. he had attacked her with a kitchen knife out of blind rage, but soon became horrified at what he has done after he realized who he just harmed.

rose had passed out during the ordeal, waking up the next day alone with a letter beside her bed and a map. soon, she realized her father had decided to leave her out of the guilt of being unable to see her as his own daughter anymore and left her a map to a bustling trade city for her to hopefully start her life anew.

with a heavy heart yet also a newfound determination for starting her life on a different path beneficial to herself, rose travelled to gliese under the new name and identity of 'et'hlae rifoss', meeting a butcher along the way and working as his apprentice until she was able to start her own line of work that she has currently.
