Q is one of my favorite characters from Star Trek TNG.
I might try to do our dear Capitaine Picard and Data but trying to do drawings that look like the actors while still being in my style is a scary prospect.
I didn't really try to make it look like John de Lancie here...

The Paint Bucket! It's awesome!
Use it on your lineart to make it different colors, instantly making your things look less flat than with a unicolored outline.
On the shapes themselves, draw the outlines of the shadowed parts and bucket 'em!
Then draw the highlights with a brush. Then use the middle tone color and erase some of the lines to make them look more dynamic! (example, look at the eyebrows or the bags under his eyes. I erased the lines a bit and it makes a very interesting effect!)
