A party of five heroes I drew on commission recently! More fantasy art, NPCs, awesome homebrew, and other cool stuff: www.patreon.com/Catilus
The heroes, from left to right:
• Aden Elbrand, Half-Orc Echo Knight
• Weslan Hartwood, Human Artificer
• Sara Embry, Half-Elf Genie Warlock
• Reecia Crow, Elf Phantom Rogue
• Tali Seljest, Human Wizard
And their backstories:
Aden Elbrand, Half-Orc Echo Knight. Once a soldier for the Kryn Dynasty, Aden’s hardy constitution put him up as a candidate for a special trial. Patriotic and wishing to become consecuted, he proudly took part in what was an experiment being conducted with the aim to apply early dunamancy to soldiers. One of very few survivors, the experiment soured his view of the Dynasty, eventually resulting him being removed and placed as a gladiator in Asarius. Escaping before he met his death in the arena, he sought refuge in the Dwendalian Empire, hiding himself and his abilities in a small rural cabin.
Weslan Hartwood, Human Artificer. Firstborn son and heir apparent to the Hartwood Technical Solutions workshop, Wes always had a charmed life where he could focus on tinkering with his own ideas and machines. Big on ideas but short in patience, he can often cause explosions of the unexpected variety wherever he happens to be working. After challenging his father, a master craftsman to see if he could take over the workshop and being completely outclassed, Wes took his father’s advice to travel and grow from necessity over time and experience. His companion is Accel, the homunculus servant he created as part of the challenge with his father, who seems to be sharing his personality more and more, though she is a little more of a prankster.
Sara Embry, Half-Elf Genie Warlock. Sariel Aloro, the younger daughter of the highly regarded Aloro family, once lived the somewhat privileged life of a duke’s daughter, before her father’s terrible true nature ended her mother’s life and put her on the run from her remaining family and their allies. Luckily, her own ally came to her in the form of a locket stolen from her father before she fled, which contained the fiery efreet Shadia.
Once released, the genie wasted little time offering the girl a deal. If she would swear to exact revenge on her father, both for her mother and for Shadia’s own long imprisonment, then she would help the girl by granting her the power to do it. Now partners, the two work towards their shared goal of a reckoning with Duke Aloro.
Reecia Crow, Elf Phantom Rogue. Reecia was born in unknown circumstances, save that her parents were not able to retain her and left her in front of a temple to the Raven Queen, Matron of Death. The priest took the baby in and raised her in accordance with the will of her goddess.
Reecia grew up with a will to both explore and exploit, picking pockets and outrunning guards with equal ease. The Raven Queen took interest in her antics, granting her boons connected to her deathly domain, which allowed Reecia to temporary influence pieces of souls from creatures she ended.
Now a fully realized adventurer, Reecia is following what she says is the path she decides on, which is really just following her whims and falling into things. Falling into the current group, she made fast if unlikely, friends with Sara, a half-elf genie warlock, and decided her path will run with theirs for a while longer.
Tali Seljest, Human Wizard. Tali is a contrasted person. Due to the complicated presence of two separate souls within her, she has allegiances in her memories for both the Dynasty and Empire, as well as the extensive magical knowledge of two wizards. She chooses to support neither and instead remains in the shadows, searching for a way to create a body capable of bearing a soul so that she can end her joined existence and each live according to their own wills.
