Might as well add Eight to the mix. He's one of my favorites as well.

They didn't show it; although, the way Nine was acting in ROSE, it must have happened right before he met her.
But, you're right...he should have been on longer.

Yeah I noticed the way he acted. I think whatever he was chasing made him regen.

My personal theory is that ending the time war involved seeking out some outpost in relative proximity to Gallifrey, and then assembling some Doomsday device using ancient artifacts and the Doctor's very own little contructions - and those blew up on him, but left barely enough of him for him to regenerate...
Many of Nine's Episodes involving some 'cleaning up work', like expelling beings from earth who had lost their homeworlds in the war (like, the Gelth and the Nestenes), so it would only make sense that the war had only ended quite recently ended then - and as Nine was obviously newly-regenerated (he inspects himself in Rose's house), It makes only sense that Eight met his end at the end of the Time War.
They should've made at least a whole Series with McGann. He was awesome. And cute.

Yeah, that was kind of an idea I had. He had to kill his own people to save the universe. You can only do that by blowing up the place. Though, #7 didn't really get such an amazing end--he got shot! Just from walking outside the Tardis! How lame is that? "Oh he's the crusty old guy, just shoot him off."

I know; I have it on tape, but I want a DVD!
I saw a bootleg copy at a convention once, but the quality wasn't all that good, so I didn't get it. But, with the technology better now, I might have to rethink that...

the first time i saw any episodes of Doctor Who was sometime in 2000 or 2001. when BBC America was first added to Cox Cable. it was Doctor 4 and the episodes were on on Sundays. and by the time i remembered what time they were on they stoipped showing them. so in 2005 when scifi channel started airing the Chris Eccleston Episodes my mother was calling it a sudden obsession with Doctor Who.
