The annual spooky holiday where you dress up, get free candy, face your fears, get spooked and more is upon us once again! It’s Halloween!

I really enjoy Halloween as it is in my top 5 favorite holidays of all time! As a kid I used to love it just for the costumes and candy but when I got older I enjoy it more for the fun of getting spooked and being with the people I love most of all! Not to mention, doing a special drawing to honor this spooktacular holiday every year!

For my annual Halloween drawing this year I decided to do something special and make it Mortal Kombat themed to honor the franchise’s 30th anniversary that happened earlier this month!

What started out as a fighting game for the arcade changed the way we view video games forever! The game garnered praise and is possibly the most controversial moment in gaming history that even the government wanted the game to be banned because what lied underneath is more than just a simple fighting game cause after figuring out certain button combinations you can literally kill your opponents and it popularized the term fatality! From ripping their heads off, to burn them to a crisp, send them down a pit of spikes and so much more! It got so bloody and violent that when they saw the character Sub Zero rip opponents heads off with their spines still intact they made the ultimate decision to create the ESRB rating system and it has helped us know on what games are appropriate for specific audiences.

Even with all the controversies it is still one of the most popular fighting games of all time! From a wide range of characters and stages, creativity and insane fatalities with each one being more violent than the last, the games success brought us sequels, spin offs, comic books, animated and live action TV series and movies, an album by the immortals with the song techno syndrome ultimately becoming the theme song for the franchise, merchandise, figurines, trading cards, and more!

I really enjoy Mortal Kombat as it is definitely one of my favorite fighting games and I respect what the franchise has done for video games for going over the top in violence but not go too much!

So with that here’s my Mortal Kombat themed Halloween drawing with my characters and I as characters from the franchise!

With Bricky as Raiden
Sonny as Sub Zero
Cycloborg as Kano (fun fact: Kano was one of my inspirations for Cycloborg)
Spotifly as Sheeva
and Me as the almighty Shao Kahn!

After all the trick or treating we did tonight and filling up 2 big bags of candy the sorcerer Shang Tsung dared us to go into the living forest or he will take our souls, knowing we didn’t want that we accepted the dare and went in with our candy, the living forest sure was a creepy place with a lot of trees that if you get too close they will eat you alive! Not only that but there were spiders, bats and Jack o lanterns which I ultimately decided to take out with my wrath hammer! All of a sudden Scorpion came out of nowhere and challenge Sonny thinking he was Sub Zero to a 1 on 1 which he won and did Sub Zero’s famous spine rip on Scorpion and Spotifly finished the job by ripping off all of Scorpions limbs with her four arms! FATALITY!

After that we knew that we weren’t scared at all and felt so powerful together that we decided to rule the living forest all night long!

With that here’s to the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat for all the fatalities and revolutionizing gaming forever and hope you all have a Happy spooktacular Halloween! May the spooky spirit of this holiday be with you forever!
