Description For this project, the site was located in Istanbul, Turkey. Everyone had to pair up with someone to work on this project. We were tasked with designing cohousing within the Beyoglu district, within Istanbul. After doing extensive research, we found that the local people were hanging their clothes to dry. The locals wash their clothes by hand. With this in mind, my partner and I decided to make this our concept. We went through multiple iterations, until we got to this one. For our final iteration, my partner and I created wash basins that used the rinse water for the wash water (This is Grey Water). The water that is used for washing is then sent to a treatment tank in the ground, and is sent back up to the rinse water basin. The water is recycled. On top of this, there are water collection systems throughout the site that collect rainwater for reuse as well. Along with this, any other, non-potable water is treated and reused as well. All of this is for reducing the amount of water needing to be piped to the site. I am glad to say the critics liked our project. The only thing that really could be improved on is making the laundry program more of a community based program, rather than an independent program. For the site model, we had to make it at a ⅛ scale. Then the independent design models also had to be ⅛ scale, and had to fit into the site model. I must hand it to my partner, she did an amazing job with the model. She made most of it, with the exception of the base. She also helped touch up our site plan, sections, and floor plans. I was more of a draftsman. Regardless, we worked well together, and it turned out to be an amazing project.
