Okay, actually, I'm going to have to disagree....though the scene WAS pretty sappy (read: gag-worthy for a Maizu shipper), those two lines were genius in the "of course!" manner. Mai and Zuko do not say "I love you," that is for the cliche and the fanfic. They say "I don't hate you." What else would the two emo-ness characters say? XD
Sorry you had to endure that scene, I hope it gets better....[patshead]

Good news.
The problem is, Mai's had some rough development. Only two scenes, but she's kissed Zuko in both of them and hasn't really said much. She's had....six lines in total? And the two still haven't addressed one another by name. Nor have they been serious. Well, Zuko was serious, but Mai turned it into a tease moment.
Mai gave Azula that look for a reason, though.
The thing that bothers me, though, is that it would be SO EASY to adjust the scenes to make Maizu perfect...but they didn't. The first scene, if she'd gone and put her cloak on him, that might have helped (though, to be fair, she DID ask if he was cold and he didn't answer). And the ]other one, if Zuko had said "I'm impressed...it's been almost two hours and you haven't complained once!", the scene would have been simpler and more amusing....ah, well, I guess it's just meant to be the polar opposite of a regular relationship. XD

Translating into Maizu:
"Orange is such an awful color."
"You're so beautiful when you hate the world."
"I don't hate you." <-THAT line is cute. THAT line is "awww."
"I don't hate you, too." <-THAT line is "Shut up and kiss."
Mai pulls that angle off so much better than Zuko....
But what other pairing could make the line "I don't hate you" adorable? XD
