Born and raised in Gloucester, Dane Whitman attended university as a young man, eventually obtaining a Master's degree in physics. The descendant of a long line of heroes who took up the mantle of the Black Knight, Whitman assumed the role after his uncle had resurrected the name to partake in villainy.
When the UN decided to end Osborns reign over America, Dane joined the english forces and was part of the first wave in the siege of New York. He was criticly wounded and patched up again by Faiza a young migrant. When she became host for the spirit of Excalibur Dane became her mentor.
