Description  This was very fun to draw, more so than I expected. If you have not checked out Over The Garden Wall I would recommend you at least take a peek. It left a big enough impression on me apparently.

I'd hate to have someone's first impressions be this 'gloomy'. The silver lining is that it seems to be convincing enough despite my choice of a dark and ambiguous character.

Thanks

 I was hooked immediately  after the first episode which is rare for me when it comes to cartoons.  It feels a touch mature at times, likely due to the fantasy setting which is a big appeal to me.

Yeah, rare for me, too, actually, but I found it to be really enjoyable. What with the sorta modern, blunt humor and the overall feel just was so cool to me, really. I was kinda really depressed when it ended tho...

I liked the earlier episodes but not the later ones.

Yeah, like, the later ones were okay, but it just didn't feel as satisfying, really. It just kinda felt as though everything went a bit too downhill, or something. Like, the first 4 I think are good, but the rest up until the end of ep 8 and all of ep 10 just didn't really... I just didn't like how they went down, even though I liked them.

The later episodes got a little mixed in my opinion. I absolutely can't episode 8 and I don't really like 9 because the fantasy is lost. I know they wanted justification for being in the forest and all the other places but it seemed wrong to try and add realism to everything. The strength of the show was it's fantasy genre and they threw it out in the end. If they ever want to continue with episodes then they have to throw out most of what is familiar now. I would like to have seen a little more story development in some places. I really want to know more about the forest and the beast. What they could do is have a story arc for the lantern guy and build up what he has been doing in the past or during the main story. You would not have to focus on the people but could focus on the dangers and oddities of the forest.

Yeah, I kinda agree. I mean, I liked the last episodes, but they just kinda went downhill with the loss of fantasy, and more emphasis on the realism, and it seemed to kinda want to go into a bit of a horror genre(it didn't really tho so yeah there's that) with episode 10... I liked it, but it just kinda didn't feel like it held up to the fantasy... I mean, I guess they weren't really trying to, but still... I just really liked the story, and the characters, and while I do agree that some parts should've been delved into a bit more, it was still good to watch for me~
(and yes, give woodsman a back story, PREEZ!!! i find him so interesting, he needs to have his own story arc for that, seriously)

They might have ended things with the main arc but they still have the potential to really delve into the backstory of the woodsman.  We can learn how exactly the woodsman got stuck in the his situation  and maybe tease out some tiny details about the beast. It can still make good use of the fantasy world.  It sounds like a good idea for fan fiction if one was willing to make a lot of unofficial lore.

Yeah, like I hafta wonder how his daughter disappeared in the first place, really. I mean, we can probably guess that he and his daughter possibly got lost in the forest for a short period of time, since we can see that in the beginning, it says that the mill where the Woodsman lives and grinds up the edelwood trees isn't his house, and we even see it at the end of the show, so I can only assume that maybe his daughter got lost, and he went to find her, but instead just found that she had started to assume the same fate as Greg, and the Beast possibly convinced him to carry around the lantern, obviously lying that his daughters' soul was in there, but... just... no. I wanna believe it, but at the end, he even says; do you really want to go back to that empty house? So, the Woodsman knows where his house is located, so his daughter shouldn't have gotten lost if it was only a short distance away, but possibly a good enough distance away where she could've gotten lost, and possibly trapped by the beast into losing hope and staying in place so that she would have the tree slowly grow around her... it's a theory, but I'd like to see it explored more, really... just... give e'm a story arc, and answer all these unanswered questions, CN! ;-;

There really is a lot to consider which makes the possible side stories seem like a great idea.  OTGW  clearly has the potential to do all sorts of things. There really is a world worth  learning about and everything needed is already there. All they have to do is elaborate and build up these stories. The possibilities are very broad.

Yeah, I mean... all these side stories they have really should be a bit more explored in my opinion. They're all pretty interesting, and I just feel they should have a bit more spotlight, really~

I finished watching yesterday. To be honest, I prefer the earlier episodes to the later ones. Although I think you would need to watch the later episodes to get a better understanding of the beast.

I didn't even think about the possibility before. I just wanted to use the most recognizable form which is mild at best.
