Description I have been working very long and I tried to incorporate as much of the things I have learned since I started this one. Im preety happy with the result. I wanted to make much more detailed background, but it has already consumed too much time, and I have to move on to new unexplored lands

He is some kind of desert guardian, cyber enchanced and well equiped, he is patrolling outskirts of CORELIS - mechanized desert city ruled by mad artificial intelligence suffering from split personality and extreme paranoia. In effect personalities fight each other with every possible means. City is divided. Inhabitants hounded. Somebody has to watch for the external dangers. Wasteland is suspiciously quiet today...

This piece is excellent. I think the most striking feature is the brooding expression the character has on his face. Concurrently, the weakest part of the scene is the unnatural set of his crossed arms. The arms almost look like they are blocking an attack rather than resting on each other as would be natural with the character's expression. I like the backstory that you gave the picture as well. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a good story gives a picture context. Thanks for the experience! I hope to see more like this one as I browse your gallery.

I think the lack of detail in the backdrop reduced to light and shade is enough. In fact it enhances the picture.

One can get carried away and the end result is clutter - something I do too much.

Like the backdrop too - suits the mood - a man on guard, looking out for foes.....

This is good - the effort has payed off - should be proud man!

I don't know why but he makes me feel sad, maybe it's the emotion in his eyes or how he looks cold (temperature wise).

Over all I like it

Buashei In reply to IsthmusLine [2011-07-09 12:37:02 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much. This cold look is rather concentrated than sadening for me, but i like that you have felt little depressing thing, that was my goal, lonely warrior in distopian future.

He looks great!
I think the lack of detail in the background actually brings the character out more.

Yeah, just a hint of perspective is all you need sometimes.
Was my advice before any help at all?
(I too am a master of the laziness!)

ThePlanetRodinia In reply to Buashei [2011-07-06 05:27:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think about it more now that you asked me about it.
It's good to have a vanishing point in your mind and sort of imagine lines going to it.
I sketch with really fine pens or pencils so I can bury all my perspective structure lines later in the process.
It's nice too if you don't have any roads or walls disappearing into the horizon you can kinda just make things smaller in the background.
