Description

And now here is Ares with his sword and shield, the Arixiphos and Arihoplon. I went all over the place on both of these items in terms of design elements. Since the ancient Greeks had two main kinds of swords I was flip flopping on which one to go with. Initially I went with a very stylized, massively enlarged version of a kopis that looked like something out of Dark Souls or Berserk, but I just couldn't get it to work, so instead I went with a somewhat less stylized variant of a xiphos, which really works much better. The shield I couldn't figure out until I came up with the idea of the serrated, buzzsaw edge to it, and everything just slid into place from there.
