Descendent of Jotnar, favorite of Odin and hated by Thor, Starkad is many times blessed and many times cursed. Odin blessed him with three lifetimes, with the best of weapons and great riches, and the gift of poetry and always to be held in the highest esteem among the rich and powerful. Thor on the other hand cursed Starkad to never have children, to commit a crime every lifetime he lived and never own land. He further cursed to Starkad to never feel that he had enough property, to always receive dangerous wounds in battle, and to never remember his skaldic poems and be ever hated by commoners. The number of arms, whether or not he even has extra, etc. varies between stories, but he can usually take a lot of serious wounds that disfigure him even, though he survives.
