Description

Let’s talk about art styles for a second. If you look at my gallery you might see a Carlos Quevedo or a Marcela Bolivar reference… I just wanna say that IT’S OKAY. IT’S OKAY TO HAVE SIMILAR ART STYLES LIKE THEM. I’m just a beginner and I still don’t have one and if I do (One day), I won’t get mad if someone would make an art with my art style because I know those people are still learning and with the help of my art style, they could develop theirs. It isn’t about copying. For many years, people have developed a LOT of artworks and a LOT of art styles when it comes to color schemes, elements, trademarks, etc. and it is IMPOSSIBLE (quite possible, if you will) to DEVELOP your OWN. You get my point? With all these emerging works and art styles, you would have a slight chance of coming up with your own. -GK

There's a book called "Steal Like an Artist" that basically talks about how it's okay to reference other artists and their styles and learn from that. There's actually a quote that I thought coincides with what you put in your description pretty well. "If you have one person who you're influenced by, everyone will say you're the next whoever, but if you rip off a bunch of people everyone will say you're so original!" - Gary Panter.

When you first start out as an artist, the number of people you are seriously influenced by isn't that large or only the main ones will translate into your own work, but as you grow as an artist and you find more inspiration and/or people that influence your own artwork you also start to slowly develop your own art style because of these things. Building your own art style takes AGES, and when I see that someone's own style is built upon all of the people that they see as an inspiration I think it's beautiful, not cheating. The way I see it is that everyone's art style is like a really awesome collage that took years to build and represents every artist that that person ever looked up to. It's a mixture of hundreds of other art styles but the end result is something that is unique and beautiful.

I agree with you on this. When I started out, I too, tried to copy the Artists that I admired. So I experimented and gradually developed a style of my own. It may be similar to other people, but really, I'm just trying to be me.
As for your Artwork, this looks fantastic! The color contrast of warm and cool colors made it really stand out!

Most welcome!! Haha Tbh, most people think that no body reads the description box. But really, there are many people who do read and wish to share their thoughts. I came to admire your artwork, but then ended up feeling relateable to your situation as well! Keep inspiring!

Most welcome! I think so too. That's why for my part, i pay special attention to descriptions, for that is where an Artist pours his meaning for that piece of art. Keep inspiring!
