Description For Fëanor was made the mightiest in all parts of body and mind: in valour, in endurance, in beauty, in understanding, in skill, in strength and subtlety alike: of all the Children of Eru, and a bright flame was in him.
(J.R.R. Tolkien – HoME X)

Revision of a study/portrait of a young Fëanor, son of Finwë, before he created the Silmarils. I have corrected the light in some areas and added more depth. I like him better this way

Strangely enough, I like the other one better, don´t ask me why...maybe he looks too intimidating in this one? I really have no clue why, but it is an awesome pic!

I am not a genius, but I'm delighted to know you like this portrait that much that you deem me so - this encourages me to keep working harder

I thought I had commented on this at some point, but apparently I didn't.. Well, what can I say.. it's quite perfect portrait of Fëanor, looks amazing. Wonderfully detailed and looks very.. alive. all in all, it's very close to the way I see him. There's no doubt about who he is in any case. Vibrant colours work well for this piece as they express his energetic personality and creative power.

I confess it's really scary, at least to me, depicting iconic characters such as this - we all have different mental pictures that sometimes are hard to reconcile

That's true.. I've noticed that too. We are very strongly attached to their mental images of the characters we love.. as we should! One "byproduct" of Jackson's LotR movies that I deeply dislike (the effect, that is.. not the movies -- they are entertaining) is the homogenisation of the popular image of the characters. I always love to see other people's interpretations and compare how they differ from my own. In case of Fëanor here I think we see him in a quite similar way.. Your depiction really does him justice!

OH WOW...The eyes and the fire in the background are just simply amazing Anushka!...They just pop right out and make everything else in the picture look so much more life like! Plus with the contrast of the jewel and his blue shirt...amazing work!!!

This is really an amazing work. Digital "painting" is so hard. And you've got such a talent for it.

Really. A wonderful gift.

oh i think the skin now looks way much better, more pro, so to say .....though i like some things in the other version too - like those shiny strands of hair, now they're too subtle i think, but still it's a great portrait!

Oh the changes are very subtle (I acually switched back and forth to see them), but you know, the scrap has it's own beauty as well!
