Description To help give a slightly wider perspective of Varden Treta's race, here are a few sketches and illustrations of the Asmurian people.

Asmurians come in an assortment of colors, typically ranging within the blue, green and purple color schemes.

As the dominant predator race on their planet, their natural physic is often broad and muscular, a large appearance only emphasized by their mane.
An Asmurian's body is covered in short fur that grows longer in their manes (head, neck, shoulders, chest and back) on elbows, calves and tails.
Some Asmurian males -such as the green fellow seen above- also have facial mane growth.

In case you've ever wondered what a female Asmurian looks like, the woman in purple is a prime example. Female manes grow primarily from the head. Facial, neck and shoulder manes do occur on women (though are far less common) and are an admired trait within Asmurian society. Female chest manes can be controversial however, as they can get in the way when nursing and yet still fall under the societal standard of body hair that should not be cut. Such scenarios are very rare and are otherwise dealt with secretly.

Female Asmurians have long tails, while males have short tails. Some Asmurian races even have bobbed tails. In the realm of combat, tail length is a frequent topic of debate: whether the lack of a tail means a warrior is less encumbered and therefor swifter, or if it leaves them without an additional limb to aid them when fighting.

In the bottom left we have a scrappy adolescent. As with many species, the transitional period from child to adult can be difficult for Asmurian teens. Until their manes grow in, many young Asmurians fight their hardest, to prove themselves in battle until their appearance can catch up with their skill.

The Asmurian life span significantly dwarfs that of the average humanoid species. Due to their impressive metabolisms, dominating survival and lack of natural predators, Asmurians life much longer and slower than most other intelligent species. Asmurians do not measure their lives in years, but by levels of accomplishment and maturity. Dying of illness is almost unheard of, and apart from old age (hundreds of years) the two most common forms of Asmurian death are war and heartbreak.

Asmurians mate for life, forming a powerful bond with their mates that makes them significantly stronger. If one half of the pair dies, it's almost certain the other will pass soon after.

Treta is somewhere between 210 and 240 years old when he first meets Kala (just about middle aged for Asmurian males). She is roughly 25 (42 in earth years). When she first finds out how old he is, it's quite a shock.

When it comes to Asmurians, its ALL about the hair. The bigger the mane, the more respect you're likely to receive.

*Treta smirks* "Why thank you."

Probably! Though I bet that'd be something that anyone who uses it would keep secret.

"Didn't get that promotion at work? Maybe it's your mane! Buy Extenz-sions now and get the look that demands respect!"
