For some reason, the first time I spotted this I totally missed that the board was a peasant. Must've been because I was looking on my phone.
But now that I can see things clearly, the distant background is the sky, correct? If so, the colors and shapes make the clouds easy to confuse as other wave crests. However, I do like that the shapes are similar, so maybe if the cloud outlines were even lighter, or if the ocean was slightly more turquoise and the sky more indigo.

Good points. Applying gray or desaturated blue via gouache paint might have helped with the outline issue, as would using any cloud type other than cirrus (cumulus, perhaps?). Changing color balance in PS sounds interesting, too, so I might try that to see how it feels. As always, thanks for the input!
