Description Ursa stone legend

To the north of Cape Roca, rising out of the sea in front of a small strand, there is a great rose-coloured rock; Bear Stone. According to the legend this was named after a female bear who disobeyed the orders of the gods to migrate north with her young when the ice, which covered the Sintra mountain range, started to melt.

In their anger the gods transformed the bear into this rock and her cubs into other smaller rocks ranged around her forever into the sea.
