Description Its been a while since my last art submission, due in no small part to the amount of work we are doing here at 3dsense (we had just started our final year project).

In any case, this mech concept was done as part of our design functionality module at 3dsense. We were to design a walker with an eye toward making the joints look like they could work. To that end we chose to use the simplest of joints (hinges and the like).

I used this assignment as an opportunity to not only practice rendering, but also to try different approaches when applying light to an object. The grey render on the left was done with all the different aspects of light broken up into their individual parts (Diffuse, specular, etc). The one on the right was more an attempt to see how much I remembered about the basics and most of basic render was done on a single layer.

I found the single layer approach to be more of a pain because it was harder to correct the parts that had been done wrong. Where as in the layered approach it was much easier to enact changes because all the different parts of the image were separated and could therefore be altered without affecting other components.
