thanks - Actually, he's Rip Van Winkle, who legend says was put under a spell by the fairies and woke up 20 years later. Hence the beard...

I've never heard about that legend before. But since it includes fairies,it must be either an english or an irish legend.

No problem, I am a big LOTR fan, believe me. The story is from an American 19th writer named Washington Irving, of Sleepy Hollow fame (Johnny Depp movie). But I think Irving stole it from an old English legend.
