Elodie is, by and large, a pleasant person to be around; she has the sort of friendly, unjudgemental disposition that allows her to get along with people easily. (With exceptions, of course, but aren't there always?) She's curious by nature, which is a large part of what makes her so good at conversing - she's genuinely interested and invested in what her partner has to say, because she can always learn something from how they answer. She's very definitely an extrovert, and is happiest when she's engaging with other people; in particular she enjoys making others happy and will help them however she can.
However, for all her friendliness, Elodie can be insensitive, for lack of a better word. She sometimes fails to take others' limits and feelings into account, and although she'll immediately and sincerely apologize the minute she realizes she did something wrong, a) she has to realize it and b) often the damage is already done. She also doesn't take well to obstruction or delayed gratification, and feeling impatient makes her kind of snappy.
Aside from that, Elodie is a hopeless romantic and spends a good deal of her time daydreaming about a hypothetical perfect relationship; she's prone to getting passerby crushes that she'll probably never actually act on. She might go strike up a conversation once in a while, but in all honesty flirting isn't even in her vocabulary, so she's far more likely to gain them as a friend than a date (not that she minds that, generally). She's trying her best.
Perhaps contrary to her scaly, needle-toothed appearance, Elodie adores cute things, particularly of the pink, bubblegum pop variety; this applies to music just as much as anything else.
Elodie and her self-esteem have a rather odd relationship; her default is that of a good, healthy self-image, but she's constantly undermining it out of paranoia that it's a false one. She knows she's not perfect, but thinks she's pretty okay -- but wait, what if she's actually not and has been unknowingly inflicting herself on everyone all this time?
Even as she comes across as self-assured and comfortable with herself, she's constantly looking for validation and worrying about what people really think of her; when someone does show some sign of reacting badly to her, she adds it to her tally of "evidence" that she's actually terrible and her self-confidence is just egotism and will start to withdraw into herself.
There is a tangible root to this self-doubt of hers, one that can be traced to her life prior to 1983. The humans and cryptids in Indieville didn't always live peacefully together, and now that they do she has some deep-seated retroactive guilt to work through, to say the least.

Elodie's lived in Indieville her entire life - or almost Indieville, at least. She, her parents, and her multitude of older sisters live in the depths of Love Lake, and they...well, they weren't always peaceful residents. Prior to 1983, they were no small part of the reason swimming in Love Lake used to be the sort of thing rowdy teenagers did as a test of courage or a dare - the type of dare that often backfired badly. Elodie was young at the time (she was around six or seven years old in nixie years when peace was finally made), but as far as she knew the business of occasionally luring and drowning humans was just the way of the world.
As relatively young as she was, she doesn't know much of what happened in the Conflict of '83 itself; her family kept her mostly sheltered from the realities of it, but what she does know is that its aftermath both widened her new world exponentially and cast a heavy shadow on her old one.
Elodie, being the youngest in her family, always had been the most friendly and curious, and once humans and cryptids began to intermingle more she was quick to befriend and meet as many as she could, far more than her sisters and let alone her parents, who all preferred to remain in the lake. She was thrilled to be making so many new connections, but in a few years it began to set in that she and her family had been drowning people just like these for years and not giving it half a thought; people with friends and families and as rich of lives as theirs. Even if Elodie hadn't been old enough to know better, the very idea was horrifying to her. Even today Elodie hasn't resolved that sense of guilt, and still lives with the fear that her real self is nothing more than that monster under the lake.
Regardless, once things had settled down a bit and the two 'sides' of the town had mixed together more cohesively, Elodie went through the typical school system in the late 80s to late 90s - elementary school, followed by middle school, high school, and finally community college. Her social life in school was a bit...odd, since her rate of aging was out of whack with the usual for any given grade and she graduated college looking like a 12-year-old, but hey, it kept her occupied for 16 or so years. Since graduating, she's just been kind of hanging around; she jumps from store to store every couple of years, working different jobs for spending money, but she still spends the majority of her time at Love Lake, chatting with swimmers and boaters and the occasional lifeguard. It's not the most eventful life, but for her, it's the people she meets that make it eventful, and that's enough for her.

Elodie is a nixie, a type of freshwater sprite, so while she has no unique magic of her own she has a range of abilities due to her species:
- Amphibious: Elodie makes her home under the water, and is evolved as such; she can breathe and see perfectly in the low-oxygen and low-light conditions, and her scales insulate her from the cold. Her legs are unusually strong, allowing her to swim far more quickly than a human could, and her toes and fingers are webbed. While this is great when she's in her "natural habitat," it makes her a tiny bit clumsy on land unless she shifts to human form.
- Predator physiology: Elodie's fingers and toes are tipped in razor-sharp claws and she has a mouthful of extremely sharp teeth. Her eyesight, sense of smell, and hearing are all very sensitive, and she's got a lot of strength for her size.
- Shapeshifting: Historically, nixies are known to change shape into the form of beautiful women in order to lure humans to their deaths. Elodie has no intentions of luring anyone to their deaths (anymore), but she can change into a human form, clothes included, when it's more convenient for practical reasons. The only way it's possible to tell apart a nixie in human form is that the hems of their clothes are always wet; Elodie, for her part, is also almost always barefoot.
- Siren song: Nixies' other preferred method of luring humans is typically the use of an irresistibly beautiful song; while Things Aren't Like That Anymore around Indieville, Elodie does still love a good melody. She's a very average singer by nixie standards, but to a non-nixie ear her music is incredibly lovely.

- Slingshot (Weapon): A simple slingshot carved out of stone, because wood would eventually get rotted away by the water; the sling was originally made of leather and kept needing to be replaced, so Elodie replaced it permanently with a bright pink waterproof one. It may not look like much, but it really packs a punch and Elodie has a sharpshooter's aim. Elodie made it years ago just to play with and keep herself amused, but hey, might as well get practical use out if it too if she has to.
- Phone: In a pink waterproof case, naturally!
- Tote bag: Has basically Elodie's entire life in it. Anything she can't keep at the bottom of the lake gets stashed in here, and she brings it when she goes into town. It's pink with a fish pattern on it.
- Bubbles + bubble wand: Because who doesn't love bubbles?
█ T R I V I A
In theory, she wouldn't really need a weapon to defend herself, since her teeth, claws, and fists are more than serviceable, but her slingshot is nice to have around, especially since it can be used at a distance.
She generally prefers her 'normal' form to her human one, and will use it unless it's too inconvenient or if circumstances otherwise demand it. Writing, for instance, can be difficult with webbed fingers. Often in these cases she'll shift just enough to get what she needs - so for example, she might shift to the point that the webbing on her fingers is gone and she's human enough to have her dress, but her hair may still be green and she might still have large patches of scales.
She's thought about using her human form to do videos of her covers and original songs and put them on YouTube, but she feels like it would be cheating somehow since she didn't really work for the voice she has.
In general, she has light markings on her front and darker markings on her back; there's a name for that kind of coloring in aquatic species that I cannot recall right now, but it makes her harder to see in the water both from above and below.
She really has no last name, but for official legal documentation and so on it's just listed as Smith for simplicity's sake.

Some other notes:
- I'm fine with pretty much any 'mood' of RP! The exceptions are listed at the bottom.
- I'm in U.S. Eastern Standard Time !
- I apologize intensely in advance for any slow replies, I have a lot going on and lose track of time easily hhhhhhhh
- Related to the above, I'd be fine with just doing headcanons too!! That's still a fine way of developing characters' relationships, and isn't quite as time intensive ahaha
- But side note!! I'm not generally rly interested in NSFW/smut RPs, I'm asexual so I. don't really get much of anything out of them yknow?? like fade-to-black is ok if it ever happens to come to that for some reason though!! And also excessively violent rps are not so much my speed, if there's some scuffling necessary for the context that's okay but I'd prefer to avoid anything graphic :')
Shipping?: Sure, as long as it's well developed! (If we're actually planning on them getting together that is AHAHA, if it's a crackship go ahead n live your life)
