Gotta chime in; the hedgies are murder to draw from this angle, especially with the modern giant spines, and you pulled it off great. Also always nice to see Shadow in such a laid back pose; he's so guarded most of the time, you wonder if he ever gets to relax any.

Haha It's ironic isn't it? the fact that drawing their quills from a behind angle is so difficult yet we stare at them 80% of the time when playing Sonic Games. But then again, it's another matter of being able to communicate between your brain and hand when drawing them XD It really is a challenge at that angle.
I liked that I put Shadow in a relaxed position. Poor bastard's always so uptight and on-guard - perhaps because he feels he needs to (many hypothesize it's because he doesn't want to make anymore close friends only to lose them either through a death he believes he caused or the fact that he has an infinite lifespan.
I've sorta noticed that Sonic's infectious personality worms its way into his rivals one way or another XD
Poor Shads just needs to relax.
I liked the little sentence that I added. Momentarily forget the hardships Shadow has faced. Sonic dealing with the trials of being a hero. Always putting others before his own health and well being.
These two wanting (according to the official 101s of StH XD) to beat the quills out of eachother. (well not as deadly as it used to be..)
It's a nice little idea. To not think about the worries of the world for a moment and simply enjoy the presence of the other.
Corny as an episode of the bold and the beautiful *cringes*. But I like it. XDDD

Ah, and now I'll go "old fart" on you: in the games I've played the most, you only see Sonic's back about 4 times in one entire game. See, the 2d scrollers only showed it in little animations underwater or hanging from ropes. 
Here's one warning about a point where I might disappoint you: Sonic's status as "hero". The Sonic I write doesn't call himself one, and doesn't like it any more than he likes other titles. For a number of reasons, but they can be summed up: "I live my own life, nobody's gonna tell me how to, and I'm not responsible for fixing anyone else's problems."
He'll step in when he has to, and he can't resist tears /puppy eyes well, but he doesn't see that he's got any duty to defend others. He just doesn't like seeing people getting hurt, or seeing the nature he loves getting destroyed.
I like fan theories like that; I like it when anyone looks a bit past the front of a character. A lot of fans also assume Shadow to actually be completely cold to others, and that's not the reading I'm getting.
My take on Shadow's guarded mindset is a lot because he's an engineered, drilled soldier, I guess, and that he feels he's screwed up so bad already he's got to spend every waking second making up for it. And he's got a self image he desperately wants to keep intact.
...Roads and Destinations is a story between Sonic and Shadow, but it's also very much a "re-imagining" of the games, mixing old and new and taking some paths the games didn't take. Some of those will have to do with Shadow's lifespan and his backstory in general. We'll see how well I can pull it off.
Their mutual will to beat the other is something I try to keep integral to their relationship when I write it. Not only is it good for showing their character through their differing attitudes toward the fights... Someone who keeps challening you will force you to improve.
Don't know if I'd call that corny; I'd say it rhymes with Sonic's philosophy of life. And a little "corny" can make something really touching that otherwise would have been too ...ethereal... or something to really reach you.
