Just a second drawing that I used for practice in water colouring. I think I'm starting to get the hang of this now in regards to back washing the paper with the lightest colour possible and then working from the edges out with the darker colour.My tape however is a bitch and tore my paper in places >>...making the colours seep in and run >_< does anyone know of better tape then masking tape? (Made for painting my ass!)
If your going to comment please be easy on me..this is just a practice piece so I'm not pro yet xx....

I think this was the part/panel/page in the Archie comics where Shadow was threatening "Eggman" about his past.
I wanted to take the dynamic pose and try and water colour it since it seemed to suit the background nicely...and if it didn't turn out..well at least I tried.

It's really not that hard at all..It just needs patience since it's a little more tricky then acrylics.

LOL that it is...I needed something to practice on so I thought I would do that. I think I ended up sending it to them or something. It was'nt very big..about postcard size.

Nope..it was just postcard sized. I just scanned it at a higher DPI that makes it huge XD.

Yeah I find around 300 DPI makes it look good..at least for my scanner.

This looks really good! The Sonic one did as well, but I can definitely see an improvement just from that to this one. The shading/lighting on him is very good, especially. And the backgrounds on both of them look really cool. ^_^

Thanks! Well in fact my scanner was the one that killed my Sonic one. for some reason it washed it right out and I had to sharpen and darken it on photo shop xx.. if I hadn't you wouldn't have been able to see much of it. My scanner for some reason is a real cow with tradtional medium.

I thought you might like it. In fact I was pretty surprised it came out as good as it did. I was a little worried about the shading and crap for the black..but hell it's the easier colour to shade XDD

Shading something that's black looks really hard, how did you do it?
do you have to highlight over it or just go weak on the tone first and add stronger tones gradualy?

Well when doing black with water colour yeah. I put the lightest wash I can make underneath and then well it's still wet work it darkest from the edge inward with one sweep. It's a little tricky to master but once you do it it's easy after that...you just have to remember not to make it TOO dark.

when in doubt with tape got with good old painters tape,i prefer the blue kind but it comes in lots of colors. I really like how this turned out. I think the back grounds my favorite ^_^

I ended up getting painters tape too... this other non sticky stuff sucked.

when in doubt go with painters tape. I've only ever had it mess me up once and that's cause i had cheep canvas paper that I was using at the time

There's a special kind of tape that use specifically for water colors, and there's also a liquid form of it as well called masking fluid I believe ><
I'm trying to remember all the water color and paint training I went through at my last job before I moved into the video game arena. But yeah, I know masking fluid is a lot nicer, because once your done water coloring I believe to just scratch or peel the dried masking fluid off.

Yeah I have the masking stuff :3 It's a liquid latex that you peel off when your done, bad for sticking to your brush unless you rub it on soap first...but my tape..is a bitch. It ether lets go cause its to wet, or it holds on to the point it tears the top layer of my paper. I'm going to have to hit up my art store for some decent stuff.
ROFL XD I was a little....pensive about doing this one (lots of little detail) but I thought meh suck it up and give it a try..whats the worst that could happen..you mess up?...so no ones going to see it anyway XD.

It's because of Sonic I ended up taking a huge liking to The Flash later on. But yes, can never forget our roots. Sonic was a huge part of my childhood X3
