Wow. I've tried origami and the most complex thing I designed was a sloth... and that was accidental.

The gold is just the other side of the paper XD and I generally don't like using foil for finished models (as it doesn't photograph well) but I made an exception for this one because of the designs complexity....and because I didn't haveany larger paper ._. I actually folded a more recent version of the model, as well :/

To prove, you could make a few pictures from the start of a work =3 Its really gorgeous what you do with Paper! I love the wyvern =3 And the guinea pig army is just too cute ^.^

Very, very well done. The proportions are excellent, and you made superb use of pattern grafting. Absolutely elegant. One of my favorite models so far.
Haha you're the next Satoshi Kamiya.
Diagrams would be a pain in the ass, but don't you at least have some notes or such? I'd would be helpful to see the designing process as I'm trying to learn myself.
And, what size square did you use for this?

Here is the crease pattern [link]
And here is a picture showing what everything forms [link]
As for the designing process, the concept of how I would integrate the scales into the design actually came from a failed attempt at a turtle. This is actually a second, upgraded version of the design, the first one didn't have scales on the tail.
This one is folded from a 26 inch square of foil.

Well, I used this type of paper in my cat, but with tissue paper glued on the golden side of the foil.
Finally I varnished it.
Do you have diagrams of this thing????
It is just impressive!!!!

Blue-Paper In reply to SADARAC [2008-11-29 02:35:30 +0000 UTC]
Sure, but there really isn't much to it (what everything forms, I mean), The head is in the top left corner, the tail is the bottom right, legs are in the middle, and the wings are formed from the lower left and upper right corners. If you're still unsure, I have another picture that is labeled [link]

Quite nice. Have you ever seen the Wyverns by Jake Crowley? Its a pity hes dropped off the face of the earth, I think there are some photos of his multi-piece scaled ones on Joseph Wu's site. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Yeah ,I've seen the pictures of his stuff. They are pretty good, but as you said, they are from multiple peices. Mine is from just one square of paper.

mistro In reply to Blue-Paper [2008-10-28 16:26:21 +0000 UTC]
Indeed, I can tell it is one piece. You applied Kamiya-esque scales, talons, and head nicely to the model. The only part I dislike is the back of the neck. You've made wonderful use of it being open-backed with the tail and wings, the neck just seems out of place.

Blue-Paper In reply to mistro [2008-10-28 22:35:01 +0000 UTC]
It might just be the angle of the picture, I think you're talking about near where the head meets the neck, I have more pictures of this model on my flickr page. The neck is partially scaled as well (though its not all that noticable where the neck body ends and the neck begins in this picture).
But anyway, thats probably something I'll fix when I make it again.

The dragon is about 12 inches from head to tail.
