Description A little tribute to Ziggy Stardust a.k.a David Bowie in the early 70s, if you don't know who he is then you should read up on your music history!
I saw this as a black and white photo and had to draw it. I hadn't used oil pastels in a long time, and felt that the vibrancy of them really suited Ziggy so I just got creative with the colours! I wanted to make it dramatic and colourful more than anything, to reflect the character's personality and music - and I really like how the angle and his expression combine to make him look quite strange and scary yet still endearingly mischievous...

Pencil and oil pastel on smooth paper, a few hours.

Awww this is pure beauty!
You made a fine specimen look..........well, even finer I love the vibrancy of the shadows, especially the ones on his cheekbones and the circle on his forehead. Really emphasizes his notable features

I think I did that exact same drawing back when I was in high school. lol. I love the Bowie! I recognized who it was right away...good job on the likeness. Have you ever tried prisma color? I did a lot of my protraits in prisma color...they tend to really lend themself to the art...but you have to press really hard to get them to blend. The reason I say this is that I think it would provide you with a sharper picture.

Yay he's supposed to be a little scary as I say in the description! And yes, very true about the wearing or not wearing thing, though I've seen other the photos from the set and I think he's wearing his knitted bodysock thing.

I find oil pastels really hard to work with so I'm amazed at how you've blended everything and got such perfect colours.
The shadows and highlights are fantastic.

I hate working with oil pastels, I've decided I was using them on black paper in art and it made the yellow go lime greeny coloured, so my yellow pepper was an incredibly strange colour D:

Love the texture of them though
