Sure, why does that surprise you? Sprites take time, just as any other drawing does. I certainly won't take the time out of my day to draw and render anything for nothing.

2: ever heard of "enjoying art" rather than do it for money? I'm not saying commissions are 100% bad, but if it's the small things, you shouldn't charge people. sorry, but i find commisioning for small things dihonest, only to be stolen (thanks to the artist law in america >_>

1. You underestimate the time it takes to make a sprite.
2. Don't lecture me about what I do. These people came to me and asked me to draw sprites in exchange for money. I don't have the time or the energy to devote to drawing random things for people I don't know on the internet for compensation. I don't owe anyone anything for free, and if they want a sprite, drawing or whatever out of me, I need to be compensated for my time. I don't charge by the size, I charge by the time it takes. Just "one sprite" can take several hours to do; it's a job I do for someone, and I won't do it for free. If you want to do it for free, that's your prerogative, but if you think coming to me and giving me a hard time will get me to suddenly give away my time just for the sake of it, you're talking to the wrong market.
Exactly how is charging for my time dishonest just because pixel art is small? What number of sprites would I have to draw to make it honest work? Are my 500x500 and other oekaki size drawings also dishonest? Is there a resolution limit that makes charging for time not the work of a crook? Back that one up, that's an interesting stance.
