slipping into broken promises like stale cheese

An ulcer the size of kansas, a tumor shaped like montana

and their cries were never heard by him.

and his cries were never heeded by them

Finally the last gumdrop fell from the empty sheet above them

but the air was torn and shorn and ripped by the great maw of an oncoming fruitbat

all was dark in the wake of his terror

and the dragon at the edge of the world awoke with a scream that shattered billions of lives in a single moment

his last hope was lost; their lives the cost

and doom had come
