Description I rather like this one, though my shading is still a bit sloppy. I’ve been planning to play around with composition more this year, and this ain’t so bad a start ain’t it?

It was made for a Baroque contest, but I missed the deadline, and the reward wasn’t so great that I would overwork myself to get it done in time.

Oh, and don’t look too closely at the chandelier. Nothing good will come of it

I really like this piece; it has a sort of welcoming glow about it. Also, seeing as how you mentioned the chandelier, I had to study it. It seems like the world decided to tilt a bit and the chandelier was just like, "Eh, I'm going to stay here." xD

I love the soft tones, and the how they are naturally combined with the environment and the character. The only thing I dislike about this work is the difference between the size of both eyes. Even in perspective, it is still a bigger than it should, I think

The first thing I noticed actually was the ceiling. I didn't think it's at all bad though. The shading seems to give the picture a very sharp look to it. It's interesting, I think. Nice work on this!

The ceiling is a bit odd too. If it starts acting funny just shift your eyes down to his torso. It usually cheered me up I have a lot of room for improvement in the background department And thanks for the comment

You know, if you hadn't mentioned the chandelier, I wouldn't have looked to closely at it. Now I did, and it's your fault.

But really I don't think the chandelier is bad, just kind of hanging in the wrong direction.

You did really well on the composition there. It looks very dynamic and really brings out the character. It's all in all a very lively image, especially because of his casual pose. Your shading here is really good. It just seems slightly inconsistent that there's no outlines on his torso but everywhere else. That creates kind of a strange contrast between the more drawn and more painted feeling. It's a little off-putting.

Other than that I really love it, though. definitely worth the work you put in.

Argh, you shouldn’t look when people tell you not to I realized the bad angle of it too late when I was not in the mood to revisit it. It actually looks a bit better in the format in which I worked on this, 6000x8000, but the resizing was rather unkind to it and it looks like it’s suffered a blow from a bad noise filter. Both problems at once and it’s not as pretty a sight as I had hoped.

As for the lines I think they are actually in there, just so blended out they aren’t there to the naked eye I’m a bit indecisive about my style in that respect. I’d love to get to the point where I don’t have to outline my work and have a nice proper realistic shading, but as that turns out to give me blurry and wiggly edges, I end up laying on the lines to hide them anyway. Me thinks I need more practice

And thank you for the CC

I think both with and without outlines has its merits. I usually don't keep the outlines in the final image, but if I do I fix the layers transparency and then color the outlines to appropriate shades for where they are. That way they can still hide mistakes but don't stick out too much, and it looks like they're not there
