Description Venus Flytraps, or Dionaea muscipula

Sterling silver sheet and wire, of various thicknesses, a garnet, and a lot of hammering.

Some versimilitude has been sacrificied in favour of making construction easier, though this isn't really noticeable to anyone unless they're familiar with the plants themselves.

i think this would look glorious as a hair piece of some sort(like a hair pin or clip used with a simple bun).
when i first saw this i thought it was some sort hair piece, it probably coule be made to be more functional without taking away from the art that way.

i think that this concept would look glorious as a hair piece of some sort(like a hair pin or clip used to make a simple bun look extra fancy). if only i had some money i would buy that in an instant.

It's extremely lovely. I would wear it.

I recently bought myself a Venus Flytrap for my birthday almost two months ago.

They're very interesting plants, for sure.

Oh I agree.

Sometimes I've just stared at my plant, who I named Audrey, for hours on end, waiting for an unsuspecting bug to be devoured.

My grandmother used to feed hers scraps of ground beef in the winter.

Yeah, but ground beef tends to kill most of them however.

well, yeah, but they're aren't many bugs around in the winter here.

That is beautiful! I used to have a venus fly trap. Your rendition captures all the essence of the plant and very little was lost in translation. The garnet for the fly was brilliant!

That's VERY beautiful ^^ I've always wanted a flytrap, but my family always says: "Knowing how clumsy you can be, you'd probably get your finger eaten." Hnn, don't think that's possible, but yea...

I think if this was to be worn in a fashion show, the woman/man would probably be dressed as some sort of forest spirit(a dryad, perhaps?).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bionic-dingo In reply to Suspeito [2007-04-21 04:25:04 +0000 UTC]

ohh, that's a toughie. It's got a bit of heft, but it's lighter than it looks. It was built out of the better part of two large silver coins, and I can't actually remember how much they weighed. I'm afraid I'm not much help.

yes, i've noticed some discrepancies ( i possessed 6-inch diameter specimens with 1.5-2 inch traps), but nevertheless, i appreciate it greatly when people create art pertaining to carnivorous plants. great job!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bionic-dingo In reply to amphirion [2007-04-21 04:22:41 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The original draft of this thing actually did have biolgically accurate components, but the construction problems and the time frame I was working with meant sacrifices had to be made. Also, as I mentioned, nobody ever really notices it's wrong until I point it out.

whattherosstek [2007-04-20 22:24:51 +0000 UTC]

Nice! it looks so delicate. I think the hammering texture on the outside actually adds to the piece- like it's got skin and pores.

DasJabberwock [2007-04-20 22:10:28 +0000 UTC]

Hooray for the carniverious plants!

This is a nice ring...but I pity the wearer as it looks like it'd get snagged on anything and everything constantly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bionic-dingo In reply to DasJabberwock [2007-04-21 04:20:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it wasn't really designed to be a functional piece. the band pattern I was given was one of the uglier things I've seen lately, so I decided functionality could take a running leap, and I stuck a giant metal plant on top.

It was designed to be one of those piecies you send to shows and magazines to say "Look what I can do!"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DasJabberwock In reply to bionic-dingo [2007-04-21 05:48:20 +0000 UTC]

But you just know whoever manages to convince you to sell it will try to wear it sometime in their life and end up ruinning it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bionic-dingo In reply to DasJabberwock [2007-04-21 15:47:03 +0000 UTC]

Ha, probably. And the standards in the industry obligate me to repair anything I sell. For free.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DasJabberwock In reply to bionic-dingo [2007-04-21 21:51:20 +0000 UTC]

That sucks. ):

I guess that's why I stick with cheap sculptures.
If it's broken, it's usually because they didn't store it properly after its arrival, or someone purposely snapped off a piece. Therefore I don't have to do free repairs. However if it was one of my best and if I like the person, I'd probably do it for free.
