I HAVE depression (true: diagnosed by my therapist. I said the truth because some people might think i am lieing)

I had a side effect from some pills to make me reduce my appetite, one day I started to shake. (Question: was that anorexia? )

I just found you via a tumblr repost of these series of thoughtful cartoons, which I loved (subjects and art), then progressed to Shadow Shifters. The ‘sketchy’ art is really enticing
(when clicking on the watch button, I checked the friend box, hope you don't mind)

Fuck people who think depression is just a choice or a phase. Fuck people who think tough love ever works. I've known people suffering from depression who have killed themselves because of other people's 'help.' And the worst part? The people responsible are completely oblivious that they caused it.

I don't know if I fully agree with the middle one, though. Depression doesn't necessarily require medication in order to be treated effectively.

Well, it's because my clumsy translation, I guess - in original version it says depression requires treatment OR EVEN medications, I just didn't know how to translate it neatly. I'll think about changing it.

I cured my severe depression and anxiety with a natural treatment called Evox. It's a tech based therapy that uses sound to signal your brain to let go of emotional blockages that cause anxiety and depression.  It works quickly, in just three sessions I noticed a huge difference in how I was feeling about myself -my friends and family noticed immediately too! It was such a miracle to me, literally saving my life. So now I'm learning to do Evox myself so I can help other people! I'll be buying the equipment this fall if all goes to plan.

Please contact me if you live in Utah or Vegas and want to give it a try

Depression is a disease but you can, for lack of a better term "get over it." It is what those of us who have no money do. It did take me years though and I think it requires a certain kind of person. Even though this will bring the trolls, I also attribute a lot to God for saving my life. But I do reccoginze that this is not for everyone

Miiroku In reply to devon2501 [2014-06-27 13:38:44 +0000 UTC]

As someone who also "got over it" it's not recommended, and you should never tell anyone they can just "get over it". You can't get over it. You can just ignore it. Sure most days I'm not hating myself and thinking about death, and most days I'm something close to being content with life. But I'm always tired, I have no motivation, I feel worthless, and hopeless. I can go months without ever thinking a negative thought, but the depression is always there. It will never go away.

Yes, us without money often do have to just deal with depression and make the best with what we have. But my point is, never, ever say anyone can just "get over it". No matter how nice you put it, no matter how good your intentions are, no matter if you can 100% relate, you're not helping. Every time I have ever been told anything like that, it has spiraled me down to the darkest places of my depression. I can easily see words like that driving someone else to suicide.

It IS possible, but remember that depression can cause a suicidal thoughts and it can end with death for someone not as lucky as you.

I actually have been diagnosed with depression and have struggled with it for nearly three years now.  Most people, including my parents, think that I'm just bored or being an ass, and they often tell me that I need to get myself together or get a job or get out in public.  And they try to force me into these things.  Now, I'm not saying that these things couldn't and don't help the situation, but forcing someone to "get themselves together" when they are suffering through depression isn't effective.  Treatment, and gradual steps are what it takes to get out of the funk of depression.  I'm not completely cured yet, but with medicine, counseling, and support I've made a whole lot of progress and it won't be long before I can say that depression no longer has a hold on me.

I'm glad you drew this up.  People need to be aware of how some of these diseases and emotional states really work.  Sometimes it's not a choice we make, it just happens and it can't be "switched off" like some people believe.

People actually make fun of rape victims? Right behind their backs? Seriously? As in, in large enough numbers to make this necessary? I haven't heard of that, but if that's so, ANYWHERE, then I've just finished losing a substantial amount of the faith that I had left in the English-speaking portion of humanity.

BEHIND THEIR BACKS!? HELL THEY DO IT TO THEIR FACES! I went ape shit on a guy in my college because he made fun of a woman who got rapped on campus. Little shits make me wanna rage all day, talking like they know anything. I'm a guy so I will never know what it's like for a woman but I at least have enough empathy to NOT MAKE FUN OF SOMEONE WHO WENT THROUGH A TRAUMATIC EVENT! Pricks need some time with pedo bear if you get my meaning.

very thought provoking, i shared this with some of my friends. One of them raised an interesting point about rape not just happening to women, and that for men there is a big stigma around the victims and that they should be enjoying it (he was talking mostly about women raping men, I have heard of such a case before but it seems either less common or just less publicized). He also mentioned that it is not clear whether you mean clinical depression in which drug therapy is the only answer, or the other forms of depression which can be fixed without drug usage.

I hate it when people think rape is an option, and that its can be simply avoided. No one chooses it just happens because someone twisted enough to go and do it to someone. Amazing message btw i think you got your point across with this .

I can see people being misinformed or mislead about anorexia - it's often shown in combination with underweight persons, so as long as you're not informing yourself or are affected by it in any way, I see why someone can't see anorexia without showing rips.
I can also understand why people underestimate depression. A person who never suffered depression can barely understand how it feels, or how it works - unless you have someone close who suffers from depression and talked to you about it.
But I never, NEVER understood, how people could joke about rape, or don't take it serious. A mental illness isn't necessary something you can comprehend, but where's the question in how bad it is if you're violated by someone else? Attacked, hurt, and damaged? Even if you count out the mental damage (which is always most severe), the damage done to the body alone is something you should comprehend, and show you a person's pain. Seriously, I can't comprehend that any normal person could justify rape, or joke about it, or think it's nothing serious... I sadly expect that from cultures in which you get taught that it's fine (because women are "worth less" or have to serve the men), but not from a presuming "civilized" country... I just can't wrap my head around it...

I totally agree with this, especially with the last picture. Unfortunately, I live in a country in wich half of it's population blames the victims for wearing short clothes in cases of rape, and in a world so machist as this it'll be hard to change people's opinion on the matter.

However, anorexic thoughts and actions can very well be present in other weight ranges, and are just as serious!

a lack or loss of appetite for food (as a medical condition).

an emotional disorder characterized by an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat.

I googled for the sake of correct information, and what I found is that there are several classification types for anorexia nervosa. I only knew the ones that use BMI as a factor, but there seem to be others who don't.
Also, what I found is that "Anorexia" (without the nervosa part) is simply the symptom of decreased appetite, whatever the cause.

Wasn't trying to be mean or anything, it seems we were both equally right and wrong.
