Description I think this big guy had his eye on my cat who was hunting voles out in the front yard this morning. I saw him take off from a tree way down at the other end of the bay but since I was behind a tree he didn't see me till the last second when he flared up to land on a top branch of a tree right above my cat. But he immediately changed his mind when he realized I was there and continued on. Probably good for my little feline friend I think

You lucky SOB! Your cat was even luckier I think..lol It's a great shot too..

I've been trying to get shots of the birds here for months. I spoke with one of the local photographers here. He thinks the same as I do. They're nervous. He found one dead, full of shot. Which surprised me. I've only ever seen the hunters with the twin standard length barrels. He reported it, but it's Germany....
So he bought himself a Ghillie suit and waited for 2 days to get the shot. Nice shot too..

cats eat voles - birds definitely eat cats

is your cat an outside critter? if yes - he/she does need to watch the skies

Sort of ... I have a cat door that she uses all the time. She used to be outside a LOT but now that she is getting older she is in more than out

Oh wow, that is stunning! How good for your cat you were around, perhaps she should be a little less cranky toward you for the next two weeks. What kind of eagle is that? Is that a Golden Eagle?

oh man ...... she was totally oblivious!!!! Although, maybe 5 years ago, she came BLASTING thru the cat door like she had been shot out of a cannon and a millisecond later a Bald Eagle flared up in front of window. THAT time she knew it might have been her demise but this time it all happened high up in a tree above her and although I don't really remember but she must have been watching me or still watching for voles but she had no idea of the danger she was in. And quite frankly I didn't either. I expected him to just fly by not land! She was further out on the edge of the bank along the rocks where the voles, mice and other little critters like to congregate so with the sharp eye of an eagle she would have been easily visible to him at the other end of the bay. But I had a thick lilac bush in front of me with a large tree behind it so I was completely hidden.

I'm pretty sure it was a Golden Eagle. We do have Bald Eagles around here but more often Golden's. An immature Bald does look like that too but I think this guy was too big to be just a young Bald.

Would eagle actually prey on cats?

oh for sure ..... any small mammals ... all the same to them .... have you seen one? They are a very large bird!

I've seen some falcons and I thought they were pretty large.
That can get pretty scary considering eagles are larger than them. O_o

Bald Eagles are HUGE .... a big one standing on the ground can be close to 3 ft tall! And a Golden Eagle is just slightly smaller than that.
