Description "Dr. Breen... he's the administrator of this whole vile business now. He ended the 7 Hours War by managing Earth's surrender, the Combine rewarded him with power..."

    Dr. Eli Vance - 202X

Wallace Breen is the antagonist of the video game Half-Life 2, released in 2004. He was the former administrator of Black Mesa before the Black Mesa Incident, leaving him among several dozen people as the only survivors of the disaster.

Lore:

When the Portal Storms broke out all over the world, threatening the human race through attacks from the monstrous aliens brought in from the borderworld Xen, the Universal Union, (or what small minds call "The Combine") launched a massive invasion of Earth, with the entire armies of the world yelding under the greatly advantageous might of the Combine's forces in a 7 hour war. Breen contacted the United Nations about how he knows how to communicate with the Combine, the UN allowed him in, and ordered the human forces to surrender to the Combine in a selfish bid.

The Combine ruled the world for nearly 20 years, with Breen as the Administrator of the human race, a puppet leader, seated in the Citadel of City 17.

When Gordon Freeman was brought back from stasis by the G-Man and he went on his epic journey to liberate the world, Breen panicked and ordered his soldiers to hunt down Freeman and kill anyone who has even came close to him. The Combine attacked every area that Gordon was heading towards to stop him from his quest. When Gordon arrived at a resistance base called "Black Mesa East", Breen ordered the attack of the base and had multiple people kidnapped, including Eli Vance, a survivor of the Black Mesa Incident and the father of Alyx Vance. Alyx Vance escaped the base and Gordon fled through tunnels and shafts to the abandoned zombie town of Ravenholm which had only one survivor of the outbreak.

Eventually, Gordon resumed his quest and attacked the Combine prison of Nova Prospekt where Eli was being held prisoner in the Depot. Gordon later linked up with Alyx, who arrived by train, to find Eli and rescue him. They soon discovered that Judith Mossman, who was one of the other people kidnapped, was actually a double agent working for the Combine, they had found out when they hacked into security footage and saw her talking with Breen via video chat on a giant Combine computer, telling Breen that "(he) would have had Freeman if you just waited for (her) signal". Breen then accused her of having a crush on Eli, which is why she bargained to have his life spared, Breen then logged out saying "so sorry Judith, (he's) all out of time", at this point, Gordon and Alyx were both shocked and p*ssed off by this discovery.

Alyx and Gordon then found Mossman and ordered her to take them to the experimental teleporter where they would teleport with Eli to Kleiner's Lab, but when Gordon and Alyx were distracted by the guards thumping on the entrance doors and an error happening with the computer, Mossman then took Eli with her and teleported both herself and Eli to the Citadel. Alyx and Gordon then fought off waves after waves of guards when the teleporter had to recharge to teleport again. When the Combine Elites stormed the chamber, they teleported themselves to Kleiner's lab, but the teleportation process itself lasted a week.

Eventually. they had discovered that in that week, Nova Prospekt was destroyed in a giant explosion and a worldwide revolution took place, first starting in City 17, but Dr. Kleiner said that Eli is a prisoner in the Citadel. Gordon went off by himself to find a route to the Citadel, to defeat Breen and free the world once and for all, but he was hindered by hundreds of soldiers. He linked up with Alyx and captured a node generator in a town square, allowing them to push through more resistance fighters deeper into the city, but Alyx soon got captured and taken to the Citadel as well, but Gordon, like always, escaped.

Gordon then rampaged through the Overwatch Nexus with his friend Barney and destroyed the generators powering the energy mortar, which meant the resistance were now storming the area and the Combine were now squeezed through into a small amount of territory left. Gordon snuck inside the Citadel and took an transport pod to the top, where he confronted Breen at last, who was with Mossman and he was with an imprisoned Eli and Alyx. He then tried to give Gordon a bargain for his life and the the world, but Mossman rebelled and short-circuited the control pad. Breen then attacked everyone with a super-energy Gravity Gun and escaped to the dark energy portal system above. Gordon and Alyx then gave chase and found him taking an elevator, giving them a mocking goodbye wave.

Gordon then found Breen in a energy sack being slowly raised up to the portal, Gordon then attacked the portal machine itself, destroying the system and making Breen fall to his presumed death. The Teleporter than exploded and the G-Man returned to put Gordon in stasis again.

Breen's death is presumed because according to the series' writer, Marc Laidlaw, Breen had his mind implanted inside a Advisor's body to save him from completely dying. This concept was part of a draft for the plot of an planned installment in the series called Half-Life 2: Episode 3. However, as Laidlaw had written the ideas for the plot years after he left Valve and got replaced by a different writer, the idea may not be canon, and this concept may not even happen at all in Half-Life 2: Episode 3 should it get completed.

This picture was made with some experimentation with the gradient tool and the blur filters, I filled the image with some faint bright hues and used the eraser mode with the Gradient tool to rub out part of the hues, to make it look like there are bright lights shining on Breen. I used the blur tool to make the edges of the background windows look like they are glowing.

What do you think? I think this looks good enough that I eventually plan to put this up on my OFFICIAL ArtStation, which is why that at the bottom left, it says "BeescyDA - BeescyAS" instead of simply just "BeescyDA".

"Wait, what kind of power do you mean?"
