Description
Process of making my Judge Fran Helmet:
Step1: I used a mannequins head, covered it in cling film then the masking tape on top. I then marked the middle and on one side split it into 3. Then I cut these shapes out and cut a few notches in the curved parts.
Step2: Draw around the half you cut out on eva foam, then turn the pattern pieces over and do the same. Glue all these parts together. Then I cut out 2 matching holes at the top for the ears.
Step3: The horns were the hardest part! Using a thick block of styrofoam I carved out the shape I wanted, This took all day and was a nightmare. Then I pinned them into place on the sides of the helmet.
Step4: I applied 1 layer of fibre glass to add strength to the helmet and around the base of the horns to keep them secure. Once dry I sanded it all down and then applied filler to fill in any holes and then lightly sanded it again.
Step5: Then I started adding the detail which is just different cords using a glue gun and made the patterns up as I went along.
Step6: I primed the helmet with EVA glue and once dried I spray painted it black then hand painted the gold detail after.
The ears are just a pattern I made, cut that shape out in the two different fur fabrics, made a metal wire frame and glue them altogether, leaving excess wire at the base of the ears to attach to the inside of the helmet.
