Description This is the second painting from my class. I spent about 8 hours on it. Nothing fancy, but I'm happier with this one than the one I did previoius.

It's a modern-day, more fashionable Whistler's Mother! Wonderful style!

Hey, Meghan here. I hope you are really enjoying the painting class, because -I'm- really enjoying everything you're producing for it. So many great things about this... subtle color relationships and reflected light.... very nice. The fabric on that skirt especially looks fantastic.

And yay for muted palettes!

yay for meghan in Portland! how do you like your job?

i'm happy to be painting again, it really feels like the equivilant of going to the gym... training for some future event. now if only i could start writing stories the same way... with them i usually just tinker.

This one is a lot better than the previous one. There's less unfinished-looking space. The red is really nice, too.

thanks, yeah the one i'm working on now is on a much smaller canvas and is only of the woman's head and hand, so it should turn out a little differently, oh and i'm using a muted pallete.

It reminds me of the cover art I used to see for my school books back in university. I think there are definite improvements over your last painted work.

I know how much effort it actually takes to work the colours, the perspective, the light and depth, not to mention the composition...

I think you're doing great. Looking forward to see your progress.
by the way, have you seen Mucha's paintings?
I'm almost certain you know his commercial work but his paintings might interest you, if you're going for trad/ approach

all the best

This is a well-worked painting, I will admit that. I have only one complaint, and that's the perspective of the floor. I'm no expert, but it looks a bit skewed. If that was intentional, you did great. If not, that might be something that you could focus on next time. The majority of the work looks great perspective-wise, but that carpet looks out of proportion. But otherwise, the colors and texture are beautiful, and all in all, it is a good piece.

i didn't spend a lot fo time rendering it, i know.... but the perspective might look even more off cuz it's actually a wood platform that's nearly 2 feet off the ground. seeing as how i didn't really spend a lot of time on it, probably makes it look weirder.

i'll admit i did get lazy there, but i do know how to create proper perspective.

never said you didn't know how to do proper perspective, but the idea that it's on a platform does make a bit more sense.

Still looks skewed to me, but maybe I'm special that way.

You didn't seem defensive. I've just learned to be extra careful when explaining my ideas. Thanks for being one of the easy-going artists who is willing to hear some criticism, constructive or no.
