Description

A commission made by ~1239the for ~TeronWarfang

I could be alot more happier with this artwork but for some reason I am not.. it might just be the characters themselves looking very unnatural in a natural environment. It might just be that iv looked at it for too long and spent far too much time on it than I should have.

Feel free to hit it with some constructive criticism please

They are heavily shadowed because they are inside a cave behind a waterfall. This image is 50% of its original size.

Do not use, copy, heavily reference or re-distribute this artwork in any way without my permission. Characters are © ~1239the and ~TeronWarfang

This is a very good picture, the shadows are nice, but maybe there should be a few more highlights; mainly on the male. Also, more shadows on his chest as well.

One of the things I don't get is to the left of the males ears. I do not know what that is. I can see the wings and know thats not the wing of the dracowolf. Only one side looks as if it could be the males paw/hand.

Another thing I notice is that only one of the males legs are visible. Is it just hiding, or is it actually not there?

Besides those little things, this is a great piece of artwork. Great job on it.

The males? they are both male >.> the dragon is one and the dracowolf (lying in his hands) has his own wings.

<< Oh... well then, when I say male I mean the dracowolf and when I said the dracowolf, I mean the dragon... I feel stupid now.

Don't be so hard on yourself, the image is very nice.

I enjoy how you create a full background with no shortcuts, it adds a lot to your piece. The expressions are very nice and set a very telling mood. I am jealous how you do rocks, they are very hard, and yours are very convincing!

The problems I see are with the perspective with the dragon receding into the cave. The cave floor is tipped upwards, when I think you meant for it to recede back. I think the shadows should actually be darker and crisper to better distinguish from inside the cave and out. A rock in the lower right corner would add a nice foreground and make the image more three dimensional, right now its kinda flat. Some more detail on the dragon would be nice, there is more detail with the wolf.

There are only some technical issues, but you still created a lovely image. I enjoyed viewing it!

looks pretty nice ^^ really wouldn't have guessed they were behind a waterfall though.. maybe if there was something damp..
and the anthro looks a little stiff, even for being held in two massive paws.

I really like it actually. I think as others have said, the wolf looks a little stiff, but it doesn't hurt the overall piece.
I think the only thing that seems out of place is the clothing of the wolf, like you said, a little too modern for the scene.

I see what you mean, but Teron (my mate as depicted), is typically depicted with the loose jeans. Blame him for lack of style. :3

"Light as a feather, stiff as a board."

To me, it looks like the wolf's back should have some curve to it. He's awfully rigid.

As for the characters seeming unnatural, I think that if you didn't use a gradient to shadow in the back half of the cave, it would fit with the rest of the hand painted feel that you gave the cave walls, etc.

It looks quite natural! The way you drew it looks fine. Don't criticize yourself so much, it's a really good piece.

I actually really like it. I can see how the grey "wolf's" position is slightly awkward, and the Dragon's face may be a tiny bit off, but overall I like the background, the shading, and the piece together

sindos [2009-08-17 17:28:29 +0000 UTC]

Now you loove to colour jeans right? they look cool. Also the belt, looks real.
You know what seems more unnatural to me? the Were (can I call him that? I suck with classifications) is too straight. He doesn't seem like resting on Dragon's arms because body had to be tense to have his back aligned. Yes, we stretch some times, but for that he should stretch his legs too. So, if it is a relaxed position, his back should be arched. His wings also dissapear to nowhere after the Dragon's claw.
The thing about the dragon is the ears/horns, the positions are not symmetrical. They go: ear, horn, ear, horn; when they should be horns inside, ears outside.

Other than that, you know how much I enjoy your style. Always really expressive, a great ammount of coloring technique and very detailed.
I love what you did with the background!

i dunno, that wolf looks a bit... stiff? maybe you should bend the back just a little... and the dragin looks nice!
but.. i dunno... there's something odd about his/her hands and arms.... perhaps you should lower them a bit, eh? Oh well, i do like the oic, honestly! *i feel like i sound snobby! <.<*

To be honest Holly I don't see much, if anything to critique about. Sure I agree that they do look a little unnatural, but it's a dragon and a winged wolf there x3 It's gona look a little unnatural. But nonetheless, this turned out beautifully, the detail, the emotion, everything.... I bet the commissioner is going to love it.

Well I say you did pretty good . But if you want critique there are only a few small things I see with this one.

First off the front of the dragon looks a little too... "bulky"? If you look at it closely he has a huge chest and then a bit of a plump belly compared to the end of his body at the tail. So maybe the end of his body could have been a bit bigger ?

Then if you want to get picky it looks like on the dragon's left foot, the second claw from "our" left looks a little miss angled. Same with the farthest left claw on the dragons right hand.

The only other thing is the ground at the bottom left corner of the pic. I know you tried using the water to show that the floor was Flat but it looks a little strange.

But that's about it. And again, this is only cause you asked for the critique and I got overly picky on things (so nothing to really worry about).

On the flip side I do have to say that you did the waterfall and the moss/plants growing on the rock face BEAUTIFULLY !!!

Maybe you should kind of "sink" the wolf character a little lower into the dragons paws and relax his pose a bit? Because he seems like a relatively heavy character, so sinking his body would show his mass, as would relaxing his pose [it's a bit stiff, maybe bend his back as if he were in a hammock?] Naturally, it would take a lot of muscle and feel tiring to lay in a pose like his for a long time, so you can try thinking of the pose in terms of "hammock".

Hehe sorry if that was kind of confusing and strange-sounding, I hope it helps!

I honestly can not express how happy I am over this; personally I have nothing to complain about. I think you did an excellent rendition of my Beloved dragon, infact. I love this piece, I really do. Thank you for putting so much effort into it. *hugs*

I think it's lovely, Holly. Thanks very much for this, and for putting up with having to draw without a reference. Everyone has their own unique style of art, and I'm quite content with yours. There really isn't much I can pick at that isn't tiny semantics.
